Does anybody have any knowledge with regards to the ZZ1 paint codes for a 1966 dodge?

Im seeing it referred to as citron gold in 66 and gold poly in 67 for the dodges?

The ZZ1 original paint 66 hemi charger that I bought shows more green in the paint to me than does the original paint ZZ1 67 coronet RT at the shop?

I am looking at non uv ray affected original paint areas (under dash sill after removal on 66 hemi car and under brake booster with hood on 67 coronet.....

I see a note on the charger source guide mentioning I may be on to something?

Definitely need someone with specific knowledge to weigh in before either car is painted. They MUST be correct.

If your looking at paint chips.. those are photographed.. not actual sprayed chips.. as for the color.. ZZ1 like others were carry over colors from year to year.. unless the paint code changed.... certain paint companies name there colors differently.. ppg ( Ditzler) would of had poly ( meaning metallic) .. where Dupont would of had a fancy name like Citron Gold.. usually underdash coatings had less material showing the epoxy or primer underneath giving it a different cast (not very Much coverage..) Most of these cars were a single stage enamel.. Prone to fading over time..

By the way.. what Ditzler had for tinters is not the same as Dupont.. all tinters come from different parts of the world.. they sorce those out to what would be a good product for there Tinting line up to make colors..

Im looking at actual paint on actual cars and the question is to come from someone with specific knowledge, are there differences in the 66/67 Z paint codes ? I should have been clearer. My painter will match spot on to anything I take him, just makes no sense to me that two cars from the same manufacturer with the same paint code mere months away from being built from each other, would have so much tone difference in the paint...led me to reading and now here I am..

      Anyone?

The answer is No.. on the first.. you have any idea how many cars went through the assembly line with that color ? how many drums of Paint they went through each day? of each color? and I bet every drum of the same paint code had a different cast, Hue, Flop to it.. ZZ1 is ZZ1.. Btw.. those years ,cars were still hand sprayed and Not robots.. Like todays Manfacturing..

I was trying to help with your question..

I will post pics on Monday. I actually have two 66 citron gold cars, they match. This 67 is for 100% original paint and its more gold but I also have another ZZ1 67 dodge in the container Ill look at.

So consesus is there was no known change from 66/67 to the ZZ1 paint?

No.. the codes are the same.. from what I mentioned earlier though... if they changed a certain paint from a manufacture .. it could change a bit. but the color code remained the same..

That makes more sense. Perhaps for 67 they used a different paint manufacturer who used different toners. Got it.

looked those years and colors up in my rinshed-mason automotive color charts i have from my body shop vintage ref books . and chrysler dodge and plymouth all used the same color code for 66 , different names but the same code . and its not the same code for the 67 chrysler dodge and plymouth . 67 color is a different color code . so they are two different golds with the same 'z' callout .

Can anyone post a pic of an original paint citron 67?

I'm not sure I've ever seen one.

On the registry page, even though the color links for 67 show citron, the actual cars appear to be medium gold poly, which IIRC was called medium bronze poly in 1966.

The codes may be the same from year to year but the colors are not. Look at LL1 from 67 to 68. Totally different colors. You have to compare the same paint manufacturer's formula number. If it's different, the color is different.

I agree that the two years looks totally different. I order some ZZ1 paint for a 1966 Charger (in a rattle can) from Car Paint Online. It matched the original engine compartment paint perfectly. It had that green hue vs. gold. I just put the Charger in the paint shop last week -- hopefully I'll get the green hue vs. the gold.

The Citron Gold on this 66 Charger has more green. The engine compartment paint is original.

yea, mine has more metallic. Don't know if its Gold Poly or a custom blend with more metallic.

I've been going thru the same thing with different mid sixties turquoise colors for my 64'. As stated above paintref.com is a great resource . Don't even dream to go by the color names or even mopar codes just use paint makers [ i used R M and ditzler] codes . This will allow to to cross check year to year and name to name. It almost seems like the different branches of mopar didn't talk to each other about paint names at all. Can be very confusing without paintref.com.

I found these pics of an original Citron Gold 66 and one that was painted. The 1967 looks different. The paint chips look different as well. They also have different numbers 1966 = 22511 Dupont, 1967 reads something else.
