A friend bought a set from Year One - the nice ones. After a two hour drive, the red paint turned dark brown, almost black. Car runs cool - not sure if he should try to return or repaint with a better paint ?

Those things are scary expensive, no matter where you get them.

A couple of years ago, when they first came out, I think...I bought some from PG Classics. They had two kinds, a $150 kind and a $399 kind. I got the cheap ones at auction for less. Haven't run them yet- hope the last more than one drive!

I didn't even bother with them after seeing those prices,I bought turndowns,an x pipe and plan on dumping them before the axle

Good plan, I have done that to a few of my cars and it makes for a really good look. I tend to go with the chrome 3" Boom Tubes cut on a 45.....I feel a Tim Taylor man grunt comming on...LOL

Thank you sir for the picture. These I have look like those, they have been off the car for 15 plus years. I read that the originals were painted inside and out while the repo's were only painted on the outside?? Anyone have any knowledge on this? Thanks and take care, B.C..

The insides turned black (obviously), and was to be expected. The outsides should not have and will be tough to repaint (glossy finish, can't really scuff to prep). I'll let him know the feedback I got (he doesn't use computer much).

Dale's Cuda shop used to be the maker/supplier for Year One. Not sure if this is still the case or not.

Anybody know how to tell em apart(repos/original)??

There are a few differences, and not all the repops look the same. Generally, the repops have a larger radiused end compared to the originals. Also, the welds attaching the outer to inner shell are much different. Most of the repops are polished stainless, while the originals were chrome.

My car has one repop and one original tip...photos for comparison:
