1955 La-mans Horrific Crash

A few years ago there was a program about the crash. The most memorial part of the program was when they split the screen as they panned the scene. Half of the screen was moments before crash the other was moments after crash, awful mess. They alluded that the French authorities covered up how many people were killed. Think they said a slow car cut off a faster car causing a chain reaction.
different times different safety standards..... but yeeoooowwwwzzzaaa ! It reminds me of some of the euro road rally events. People right on the edge of the road

Think about how much things have changed. Can you see a guy today driving a car on a track with almost half his body the highest point and nothing around him......... Thank god for the leather skull cap.

That was a pivotal moment in Mercedes-Benz's racing history. That incident affected them so deeply that it prompted them to retire from racing until 34 years later in 1989...
