More Pictures

The Lil Red Express is a 55k survivor that my buddy is dialing in a few items for the owner. Very cool truck!

The picture of the kids is how long I have because it is their college fund in the background. At least that is what I keep telling myself.

Great photos of the car and truck and very good looking young Charger drivers there! By the time the young-uns get old enough for college, im kind of betting with myself you wont be able to part with it.. Its one beautiful Charger and i may of said it before, but 68 is, TO ME, the best looking model of the Chargers.... With me, its just those tail lights, hard to get away from the style... Have fun and enjoy, You sure earned it!

Ready for launch

Well, it has been a long time coming, but the car is on the launch pad for the big Mopars in the Park show tomorrow and Sunday. I am very excited and nervous in that the car has not really been run a great distance yet. Fortunately I will have my Mopar buddys to escort me all the way there hopefully without any problems. I spent the whole day working hard to get the interior looking like it is finished, but I have lots to do yet. The roller kit I have been patiently waiting for never showed up so the side windows still need to be installed at a later date. I put the wing windows and all the trim on so it just looks like the windows are down and no one will be the wiser. There is still lots of detail work to complete but it is finally getting in site of actually being done, just not finished. I will hopefully have some good pictures of the upcoming event.

Your Charger turned out looking AWESOME! You can be proud of a job well done. Wish I could see it live and in person.:headbang:

Made it to the show

Hello all. I am a week late in the update at the Mopars in the Park show in the Minneapolis area. It has turned out to be the third largest Mopar gathering in the country and based on the number of people and cars might be gaining speed for second. The weekend turned out perfect weatherwise and it was the cars first real run out. I met up with my local buddies who have a herd of well known Mopars in the area so we all met early last Saturday morning to convoy out. Very nervous and excited to drive the car more than around the back steets and neighborhood I didn't know what to expect. We had been fiddling with numerous items up until the day so I felt pretty good I would make it. We left the house and I followed my buddy in his 68 Hemi Charger RT towards the highway. As soon as he hit the on ramp it was "SEE YA". I had a huge pit in my stomach so I let her go too and mashed the gas and it was off to the show. It drove beautiful. Smooth, straight and on the money. I know each and everyone reading this knows the feeling and stupid smile we have on our faces the first time you hit the throttle on your machine and it just wants to go. I had a BIG STUPID SMILE:happy7: No problems except for the damn fan shround that I can't seem to get from hitting the fan and making a horrible noise. We enjoyed both days of the show and at the end I wasn't paying attention until they called my name right after the winner and won what I believe was second place for 68-69 B Body Class. My friend thought it was third, but I don't know. Anything after first doesn't say on the plaque. All is well in that I was very happy with all the attention and complements I received and made me feel good. It makes the headaches and frustration seem more distant. I still have quite a bit to do in the detailing and fiddling work so maybe I will get it next year. I am just excited to be able to get in it and go for a ride while I work the gremlins out. Now what the hell am I going to do now that it is almost done? Thanks again for everyones support and once again I hope I may have been a help or inspiration to anyone on the same journey. I will keep you posted as the final detailing comes together. The wife took the camera with her out of town so all I got were crap phone photos.

Congrats on the prize at the show. Well done for a superb resto, it's reading stories and journey's like this that keep us all pumped for our own projects. Great work. :VB toast:

Your car looks great. Congrats on placing in the show. Your car was definitely one of the best there.

Once you get one, a Rotisserie, you will NEVER want to mess with cars again w/out one, trust me, I only lay on the ground unless I have to; like broken down on the side of the road. You could buy one, or build one like I did. Good luck, and this Charger is looking really good.
Donny can I get building details for your rotisserie or where I can purchase one cheap? Thanks and absolutely beautiful restoration project you got going there Moneypit. I'm definitely watching yours unfold. Thanks again and keep the pics coming.

Looking good!

Great progress! Looks great. The engine in the garage has a heartbeat! One thing that i had to do a double-take on was the quarter panel R&R. After replacing the quarter, how much mudd did you have to put on it to straighten it out? Who's quarters were they, AMD? I'm getting ready to put quarters on my ride and hope I don't have to do that much work after welding them on. Good looking car. Keep the pic's coming.

Hanging quarter panels

We did use the AMD quarter when they first came out and they did not require a great deal of mudding as I might have expected. If you do not have to cut the entire quarter panel out, do not. If you look in the earlier pictures you will see that I cut just below the top of the quarter and did not go into the door jamb either. This saves tons of work and will give you a better end product to work with. Good luck with your project.

On another note. I have been having problems with the brake system since we got it on the road. The only stinking item I didn't replace or rebuild was the brake booster. Turns out it was the wrong one anyways and not the Midland-Ross for drum brakes. The brakes worked fine when we took it apart years ago so i just figured.... The brake pedal would stick to the floor and I would need to pull it back with my foot to get the car to go. I had done all the bleeding and bench bleeding and the brakes work good but are not right. I spoke with Booster Dewey in Portland and he is sending me a completely correct Midland Brake booster with the correct plating and all which should fix the problem and be what I needed anyways. He was an absolute pleasure to deal with and I highly reommend him for anyone needing these parts. I will keep everyone posted on this issue when I get it swapped out.

Thanks for the shot

Thanks for the great show photo. Shoot the bull you say? I'm not as pretty:grin:LOL. Now you all know my last name so no Richard Nixon jokes please. I have the "I am not a crook" bit down pat.

Great show number 426. Too bad it isn't that to go with it.

Anyone have a recommendation on a good tire size. They are 245/60/15 and I am getting ready to order the Redlines I think it needs to finish off the look and get rid of the crappy Sam's Club tires next. They don't seem to have that size in the redlines but want something a little more chubby than bike tires. 235/70/15?

nice result, always great to see them make it back to former glory, if not better in a few places

Sorry, probably shouldn't have posted the pic with your name.
On the tires I'd go with wide as possible on the rear. Wide is good!

Going through from the start of the thread to the end again, just shows what hard work and determination can do. It nice to see your efforts turn out so well. Keeps us all motivated to keep at it. Getting a prize as well, Kudos.
