Is the engine number supposed to be on the pan rail in these later model engines? Mine is blank on the pan rail....

I believe the block should have id numbers on the side cast into it
Im not as up to date on the newer block tho

yes it has the casting #s on the side but I'm looking to find out where the engine number may be punched in the block as the pan rail is clear.

"For B and RB big blocks, the number is typically found along the oil pan rail, close to or under the starter."

"Occasionally, for whatever reason, an engine will not have a serial number stamped on it. This seems to be fairly common, so if yours doesnt, it's not that big of a deal."

My 78 D150 did not have any numbers stamped in the pad by the oil pan. I ordered the truck new in Jan of 78 and received it in April. It is one of 74 built in 1978 with the 440 engine. I have been the only owner and noticed the pad was blank when I decided to restore it. I have no idea if they stopped stamping them or if mine was somehow forgotten.

thanks for that, I'll go and check near the starter, trying to find it as we need an engine number for registration down under...

That's weird, needing it for registration. What happends if it was a warranty block?

stamp your own numbers..lol. I'll just give them the 10 28 440 stamped on the pad.
