Question..... can you tell from the crankshaft damper style if it has a cast or forged crank? This is the damper on a 1966 383 ...Thanks

There wasn't a cast crank in 66 for any stock big block. Everything looks normal to me for a stock appearing 66 engine, other than the color and the intake.

I have the same question for these motor home engines that I have. I'm hoping they are not cast cranks.

If I had to guess..... the 413 looks like a steel crank, with a hemi style balancer, and the 440 (a little hard to see) looks like a heavy rod steel crank, (a small amount of counterweight behind the pulley. The ridge behind the pulley would have an oblong shape, not round)
If they were cast , I think the balancer would have a bigger, more obvious counterweight, and added weight on the converter/flywheel.

33 IMP, Thanks! But zoom in on the 440 damper. It's has no counterweight. Bad angled picture. It's a shadow.
