Some of you might remember last Summer my wife kissed a tree with the front fender of my Roadrunner. Total damage was somewhere around $3800 give or take. I ended up having to pay the $500 deductible plus about $1k out of pocket since State Farm was only willing to pay up to a $50/hour shop labor rate. I don't know any quality shops that work for that rate much less one that specializes in classics.
Needless to say as the Spring approaches, I'm looking for a new insurer. I haven't had a whole lot of luck on the internet finding claim cases where the insurer agrees to actually cover the car and understands Maaco isn't doing the work. Having to pay $1500 out of pocket was enough and that was a very minor fender bender, I couldn't imagine how much out of pocket I would have paid had it been a major wreck. I'm considering either going with NCM or American Collectors since they are affiliated with USAA but I want to ensure I won't get slapped with a bill I'm not prepared for and that the company gets that it costs more to repair a classic. I know I could probably go with Hagerty and be fine but their quote is about three times what I've gotten thus far. I know, I know you get what you pay for but I'm not going to pay for Hagerty's fluff, marketing, and all the other programs they do to "enhance" the customer experience. I simply don't need it, I just want to know I'll be fairly covered.
Please share your experiences of claims, not just that you've had them for 20 plus years but have never used them. I've seen/read enough of those and to be honest every insurance company would be rated A+ if that's what we based our choices on. It's not hard to take a monthly premium and not have to do anything for it.
