Can someone familiar with block stamping tell me what I have please?
On the flat, machined surface in front of the intake manifold, it is stamped:
H 440
4 26 2

Any help with what I have would be appreciated.

I'm assuming the 4 26 2 would mean it was built on April 26th 1972.

I know it's a 440, but what is the significance of the H?
Thanks.

Photo of numbers.

Assembled on April 26. 72nd engine that day. Just a coincidence.

Model years are designated by a letter. As stated above, H = 1972 model year.
440 = CID
4 26 = engine assembly date = April 26 (1972)
2 = assembled on second shift that day.

So it's a 440 out of a 1972 model year car assembled on April 26th during the second shift.

There should be a partial VIN stamped on a pad on the passenger side about 1/3 of the way back.

Headers and a solid, one piece header gasket on it.
Also some goofy looking Chrome valve covers. When I get it out if this car, I'll see if I can find those numbers interested as to what body it left the factory in. Currently in a '75 Road Runner.

Ill be selling these valve civers

At a later date.

I'll be selling these valve covers at a later date.
Any idea as to their worth?
