Frying noise from steering wheel?

So, last week I noticed a crackling/frying noise from the steering wheel.
It gets worse when turning right and disappears when turning left.

Anyone else experienced this?

I have a Grant steering wheel.
Could it be the small wheel that runs against the copper plate on the steering wheel hub? (Bad connection?)

It might be that the disc for the horn is slightly off-centre and the noise you hear is the extra rub when moving.

I assume that there is no noise if the wheel is not moving - that would indicate the problem is not electrical.

The noise is still there when the wheel is not moving, so prolly electrical.
Turn right the noise gets worse and stays when wheel is still.
Turn left and noise goes away, even when the wheel is still again.

Sounds like something is shorted, seriously take it off and inspect it. Any smell?

Do you have an amp guage in the dash ? Does it move more when you hear the sound ? My vote is electrical and not good
I had smoke come out of my steering column from the turn signal switch parts

No smell and no smoke.

Yes, amp gauge, will check closer if it moves when the sound is there.
Yes, I am also thinking turn signal switch.

.....maybe it got damaged when I shimmed the steering pump?
I bled it by turning the wheels fast maybe 20 times left to right and back again, doing this three times in a couple of days.

Nope, dead quiet with battery off.

Will do. Was checking if anyone was familiar with this.
My turn signal switch is my original one so it is getting pretty old.

Oh, thanks also for the vac bod and rotor.

....now, who does the best repro turn signal switch?

I would try to turn the adapter on the car with the cover removed, prob see something.

I always disconnect the battery when I leave the car.

Which Grant adaptor disc did you use for the horn ring? You may have the wrong one - the selection is very difficult to make as they don't give all applications clearly.
I ended up with one I don't or can't use thanks to mis-information.

Ok, no noise when battery is connected.
No noise when key is turned on.
So this is only when the car runs (Didnt want to start as wife was sleeping, will test more later.)

Adaptor and switch looks good.
Im gonna get a new switch and try, there is a car meet coming up I wanna go to.

You can actually see the wear already on the inside of the copper disc...

Is the head of that solder joint contacting anything like the red terminal point or the plastic of the turn-cancel mechanism?
