Fuel Smell

1974 Charger SE.
Hi all, I have replaced every hose, seal, grommet clamp and no longer see any leaks but the garage smells like fuel every time I open the door and when I take it to work when I get off you can smell the fumes in the car.
The sender has one outlet and there is a vent hose on top of the tank.
When I remove the gas cap it really sucks in the air.
I don’t know how the vent line runs, maybe it’s blocked.

Modern fuels basically boil at operating temperatures so a lot of evaporation takes place when you shut off the engine and heat soak occurs. Is the evaporative emissions system removed from your car? A ‘74 should have a hose from the bowl vent to a canister in stock configuration.

Mine does Not have that system or even a place for it to be installed. I think your correct from going through my old memory banks a black 4 or 5 inch diameter cylinder with braided hoses. Yep, mine doesn’t have it. The fuel tank itself pressurizes when I run it, I would think it should not do that if vented

It’s a 1974, I don’t think “Electronic Stability Control” or “Functional Safety Management “ was even a glimmer in Walter Ps mind then.

How is your tank vented? If it’s building pressure the vent is plugged or non existent.

I just bought it at Christmas time, I’ve done a lot of cosmetic work on it and didn’t start driving it till about 4weeks ago. That’s win I found that all the fuel tank rubber was junk. I pretty sure that all the leaks are fixed because of the positive pressure it gets.
I’ll get under it again and see if the vent is plugged

odors.
You're not tied to locating
parts that are more than
50 years old and sometimes
non-existant.
In your case, I suspect a
plugged vent hose.
This pic is on a custom build
that utilizes a Corvette brake
booster charcoal filter.
$10.00 at your local parts
store plus a bug screen
typically used on a boat.
There are zero gas fumes
where this truck is parked
indoors.
