Hi. I own a 1972 dodge charger SE and I am planning in swapping out the 360 that is in it currently to a 440. The car came originally with a 318 and was replaced with the 360 by the previous owner.

My questions are:
-what do I have to do to stiffen up the frame to handle the 440?
-what will I have to change to fit the big block 727 torque flight transmission?
-what additional things will I have to change to be able to run the 440 and big block 727 transmission in the car?

Get more specific on the car and motor but there are kits for this at mancini and bishops and some others..

US car tool for the stiffening...

Mancini has the trans yolk.

Motor home 440 or 1000 horse 440 makes a difference

Is the yoke a slip yoke or a axle yoke?

this 440 came out of a truck or mobile home. The guy I bought it from wasn't sure which one it came from. I am going to rebuild it and I'm going for performance, but nothing like drag racing power. I'm probably shooting for horsepower in the 500 to 675 range.

1st off, welcome to FBBO,

shouldn't be an issue really,
there were a ton of bb versions of the 71 Chargers

the 440 should just bolt in, the original K-Member should be fine, with the proper motor mounts etc.,
you'll need a Big Block 727 trans also, the sb & bb trans bell housing are different, won't bolt up,
IIRC you may have to shorten your driveshaft also, or buy one for a bb car
the sb's came with 7260 universal joints usually too,
the bb's usually had the larger 7290 version universals & corresponding ***. transmission yoke
{904 sb trans yoke is a 25 spline, 727 is a 29 spline}
& rear carrier yokes are larger for the bb 8.750" & Dana 60's {1350 universals} cars too,
you will have to change the exhaust manifolds & exhaust head pipes too to bb versions,
probably have to get longer heater hoses too {not 100% sure there}
engine wiring harness will need to be slightly altered a few wires lengthened rerouted etc.,
Ignition distributor is in the front on a bb's vs the back on sb's,
make sure your oil pan is proper one for a 71-74 B-Body too, something like a truck pan wont work {depending on the year}

Schumacher Creative Services @ www.engine-swaps.com ,
Mancini Racing @ http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/ , is also great source too
some stuff will need to be altered slightly like exhaust, engine wiring, heater hoses, radiator hoses, transmission lines etc.
your local parts store or Summit Racing will have 99% of what you'll need,
then your local muffler shop or if your handy with a welder &/or bender, for your pipes/exhaust, you could do it yourself...

In the future,
I'd highly suggest that you should post your questions,
in the associated & proper forums, or general discussion forum,
& not the welcome wagon,
it's mainly for introductions, getting to know each other & welcoming...

GOOD LUCK
you'll get far more responses & help
