470 vs. 500 (400) Stroker?

Given the cam and compression your gonna use I would run the dual plane on ether engine size.

Is it a low deck or RB? The indy dual is only made for RB's. given what your building the RPM will work great for either deck height.

Will be a low-deck. So the Indy is out, didn't take that into consideration as i've always had RB's.

Do you have et goals in mind?

No ET goals. Just was concerned about reliability, I've always read that the 470 was the best of both worlds. Low-to-no maintenance and very high reliability. Then I read about the 500 kit actually having a lower bobweight, which surprised me.

if your looking for a cruiser set up that'll run for a long time and be zero maint, 470 kit is probably a better fit. If you think your gonna want to upgrade heads and cam and get serious at some point then I would still consider the bigger kit.

Reliability, I know you are talking about building a 470 and what I had is a 451.But apples to apples..That was 13 years ago when we did that engine. In the first 2 years the car was street driven with 3.73 gears and a Tremec 5 speed. I did 2 cross country trips and racked up 30,000 miles in the first year alone.(Ran with a M1 dual plane)Then made some changes and drag raced it for a year. We then installed the engine in a 73 Cuda with a Passion 4 speed OD and 3.91 gears(M1 back on) and went on a Hot Rod Power Tour. It's still in that car today. At the time it was driven by a 17 year old. It's still in that car today and has about 50,000 miles on it.Still runs like a top. Reliable for sure..

Bob weight relates to the taller pistons in the 470. The short rod should work great. My first low deck 452 used the 6.535 rod, 13.5 pistons (drag only), rev'd really great, good power. Reliability issues I had were due to extreme RPM I was running (7200 - 7400). Too much for stock re-ground 440 crank & stock main caps. Modern cranks should be much better. The 470 will be great.

Boost is where it's at.Low boost on pump premium, increase for track day and add octane.I got 5 years and well over 10k miles before a ring failure.

I'm very happy with my 496 B, I love how it spins up compared to my old 440 and love the torque ... Check out the m1 intake seems to always come out on top of others when tested

I stretched the LSA on my 440 from 110 to 112. I loved the torque line, literally no curve to it from 3500 to 5500. My HP peaked at 5800 and did not climb any at 6200. So I installed a max wedge governor in the tranny. I'll be able to leave it in Drive and let it shift itself. My cam was 238/242 .630 lift with 1.6 rockers, 240 trick flows on a .030 440 with 9.9:1 pistons, 6 barrel. 590hp 560-570 ft lbs I didn't see the need for a stroker unless you want the bragging rights or more than 6-650 hp

Them trick flow heads are by far the best on the market for a stock internal rb, even made some impressive numbers on stroker motors.

I must give Laroy Engines (IQ52) all the credit. Thread is Trick Flows on the 440

Great numbers! ... Your cam is actually very similar to my hydraulic roller that was speced by Scott brown. With my 1.6 rockers it's about a 6.20 lift, 240,248 duration on a 112........ So the 112 is what attributes to the super flat torque curve? 108 wouldnt be as flat?

Wider LSA will also help tame your rough idle a little too. (more vacuum)
Mines a solid roller. I could get more lift with less duration that way.
