Cylinder head and cam question

Honesty it's a 10 footer. I guess you'll see it in a few days.

Well mine is a 20 footer then.
But it sure is a lot of fun.
I'm close to being ready waxed most of it, polished a bit, adjusted rear shoes (they were pretty good) and vacuumed it.
I made the vertical kickdown linkage rod longer last night. Kind of guessed at it but it's got to be better than it was.
Hopefully smooth sailing down to PA

Nice to meet you Don. The car made the 800 mile trip and ran great mechanically. I had one issue on the way down with the new electronic voltage regulator pegging the ammeter when it got hot. We found a brand new old stock replacement and it worked flawlessly on the way home. Gas mileage was in the 13-14 mpg range. I do have to remove and repaint the battery tray because some acid boiled out. It could have been worse.

Good to hear.
We had a super smooth trip back for 680 miles total. Last check as 14.3 mpg but I lowered the AFR while we were there and we drove it pretty hard back and forth around town.
The only issue was my sensing line to the fuel pressure regualtor popped off some time Saturday.
It seemed like a vacuum leak but we were both too tired to figure it out (it's on the back of the throttle body).
But EFI covers it up going down the road so it really had little efffect other than a high idle.
I was glad to find it yesterday.

I didn't realize you were running fuel injection Don. Which brand?

I have MSD atomic on it.
The handheld is pretty low end just a backlight textual display but I can adjust anything on it even while driving. (which can be pretty dangerous)
It's been on there since 2015.
For highway driving it can't be beat.

Just in case anyone else has this issue, here is the difference between the new solid state regulators they sell and the NORS one I picked up at Carlisle. The NORS one is on the right. The solid state one was brand new, just installed before the trip. Just replacing it solved my problem. I will be checking the wiring and bulkhead connector now that I am home.

I hit the battery tray with baking soda last weekend to neutralize the acid that boiled out. Today I cleaned up the battery tray and gave it a lick of paint. The area underneath was looking a little rough so I gave it a shot as well.

I decided to check a spark plug before I put more miles on it. It hasn't been run since the Carlisle trip. It looks a little rich but not bad. I did sit idling for an hour at the border before the last hour drive home.

I started another thread about it, but I found the handling a bit loose on sweeping corners like long on ramps. I ordered a new front sway bar from Summit Racing. The stock bar is 15/16, the new one is 1 1/8. It is really a quality kit, it went on easily. Now I need to put some miles on it and see if it makes a difference.

I also installed the new washer pump I picked up from Richard (69bfan) at Carlisle. Now I have working washers again.

I swapped in the new 28 tooth speedometer gear I picked up in Carlisle, and now the speedometer is finally reading correctly. I just ordered a tuning kit for the Street Demon carb. The plugs were looking rich, so I am going to experiment some.

I swapped in leaner rods and changed to higher vacuum step up springs in the Street Demon. The driveability has definitely improved. I pulled the RJ14YC plugs and swapped in a set of 12's. I think I am getting close, so we'll see once I put some miles on the fresh plugs.

I did a different type of job today. I bought a new grille medallion from junior340 and I got it installed. I had to remove a few things to get the centre grille section out. The reproduction is flat on the back while the original is concave, but it fit in nicely. It looks a lot better than the faded original.
