You can gain quite a bit of power by yourself. Pocket porting makes a big improvement. The 2.14 1.81 valve combination also helps. If you decide to go crazy like I did, grinding to intake pushrod lump gives you something. However grinding too far creates a hole. Epoxy can cure that. 906 or 915 heads can make good power. Pocket porting is the first step, with the best results.

If you have a machine shop install larger valves, they can also open up the throat area below the valve. Then just blend the port into the throat with a grinder. This is a good way to gain flow without alot of hand work.

Very good point. Most quality machine shops can grind the bowl area deep enough when cutting for the larger valves. Smoothing out the area below the valve seat produces much HP.
