I'm hoping to get an answer to the reason for the numbering on the speedometer faces for 1968 - particularly since I was fortunate enough to see two 1968 Plymouth GTX's today - yep....two in one day.

Couple of pictures - one face has 10 20 30 40 etc, and the other just has 1 2 3 4 etc - can someone please tell me why, or what the difference is (apart from the obvious)
:xscuseless:

Thanks in advance.

The early cars had 10/20/30, the numbers toward the right side get pretty busy... So mid year the speedometer changed to 1/2/3....

Thanks for that.

Mystery solved.

That makes perfect sense, since the SPD on the blue car is June 4th

The blue car is a bit weird......all the spark plug wires are coming out the top of the valve covers......

Anyone care to explain the numbers on the back seat cross panel???? Picture #2 here

This car is almost unmolested and is in such good shape that the current owner is just tidying up a few things - new front screen and replacing the headliner....car has never been pulled apart.

My painter friend who met @HEMI-ITIS this year at Carlisle (by pure freakish accident) said it's probably the cleanest car he has seen for a long time....
Check out these pics....when I say clean, I mean untouched....never had a fender unbolted...the screen was removed yesterday to replace the dash vents and speakers.

For years while I worked construction, I wrote graffiti in places where few people would ever find it.
If I were to have worked assembly lines, I would have written stuff that makes no sense just to confuse people.

As far as the speedometer differences, did Dodge do the same thing in '68?

Hey Kern Dog I had a friend that worked for me doing construction and he would do the same. Mostly drawing cartoonish things and such. Sadly he passed away 4 years ago, but people will be finding his artwork many years from now and wondering, "What the hell?" ruffcut

What a beautiful Hemi car! Has it ever been driven? Most of us dream of having such a car! ruffcut

I've seen a couple of articles over the years about the speedos in our '68 GTX (and Coronet R/T, too) and the numbers.
Seems it was done in response to complaints from customers about readability...
Of course, since mine is one with the missing zeros, I always take an extra moment to try to read the dang thing when
trying to make out how fast Fred is going - I'd think it would be easier with the full numbers on there, but that's just me.
