You never know what you may stumble across. One of my neighbors (elderly couple, kind of keep to themselves) had the garage open yesterday and as i drove by i saw the *** end of a car in one of the bays. Holy cow.... Its a light yellow GTX (68 or 69) with a pile of tarps etc piled on top of it. Looked to be in driver condition!

Asked another neighbor about it and he said it is a nice condition 440 car and has been parked in there for over 30 years. The woman has no interest in selling it and from what he gathers she thinks its worth a lot of $$$. probably right LOL

Anyway, pretty neat find.. Ill try to grab a pic from the road if its open today.

Yea, I know of a few hidden gems too. I wish some of the owners would do something with them but I have watched a lot of great cars rot away over the years. At least your find is in a garage. Never know maybe a knock at the door could get you the rest of the story.

It doesn't do any harm in asking. What they think a lot of money is and what you think might be two differnt things, and it could work out in your favor. You just never know...............

TV shows have inflated everything to be worth a lot of money anymore, everone's pile if crap is a gold mine, sad most of them will rot away undiscovered or ever re-lived to run again due to greed. I know where a nice 72-74 Challenger has been sitting for the past 13+ years, and will probably continue to do so till I'm dead and gone.

X2 She may be willing to move on, especially if it been in there & the hubby's long gone, she maybe saving it for a grandchild too... But, I highly doubt she watches all the new car shows or auctions either, unless she's "the little old lady from Pasadena"... I'd say stop by strike up a conversation, ask her questions about the car the hubby etc., make an old friend it couldn't hurt, I'd bet it could make her day to have someone to talk to about the time she & the hubby spent in the old car etc.... Be respectful, don't push it too much, feel out the situation, it may take a couple of visits, help her out clean the garage for her, clear it to see the car show real interest & by all means "offer a fair price", do not just go in & lowball her, don't be that A-typical "johnny cheapskate" {probably why it's never sold or still there}... Then she just may be swayed, bring a bunch of photos & even a listing of the values/conditions etc., once you've broken the ice & made an old friend... Worth a shot... Hell it's worth it to show some interest in her, to help her get it running even... I've gotten most my cars from spotting some car in some garage driving by, stop & talked to the owners, I've gotten some storming deal too, when they new I was going to build or keep the car & not just another damn FLIPPER trying to make a buck, take advantage of an old person/lady/man... Good luck

I was gonna say go speak to her but on second thought you better just relay me her info and I will take care of this car crime thanks !! lol:headbang:

Nice find.

Stories like these are why you can never answer the question 'how many are left?'. There are far too many cars still hidden away to get any idea as to how many still exist in any shape.

A friend kept quiet for years about an unmolested Harley Panhead. When he had the cash, he went over & talked to the owner. Old guy was happy to sell it because his stepson & nephew would argue over who was getting it. 19,000 miles & all original. Neat old scoot. We rebuilt carb, flushed fluids & rode it in 20 degree weather. That would kill me now.
You never know, make an offer.

cool stories
many moons ago, my grandmother called my dad and told him that her neighbor had an old chevy that she was trying to sell. My dad asked what it was. She didn't know. She said that the lady wanted $2500 cash. She just wanted it gone. That conversation took place on a Wednesday. Dad called me that night. I said that I was interested but couldn't get out there until Saturday. She lived 90 miles away.
By Saturday, the car was gone.
1954 one owner Corvette, ALL paperwork from factory, original order, window sticker....etc......always garage kept
The man that bought it felt guilty, so he insisted that she take $10,000 for it
that was back in 1991

not the best pic but here it is. Sorry its sideways, It appears correctly on my desktop???

There's a more devious approach as well. :) A family friend of our used to fly B-25 bombers just after WWII, mainly post-maintenance check flights after repairs had been done. He and his crew would take off, and if it was a day hop and they got hungry, they would fly around and look for a big farm with a road nearby that they could land on. They would land their plane in front of the farm, get out, and start looking in the cowlings until someone from the farm came out to see what was going on. This inevitably resulted in an invitation to lunch, and then they would miraculously discover the problem and take off again. :)

So, what you might want to do is get in your own car, and have a mechanical issue in front of their house. Sit there with your hood up until someone comes out, then start up a conversation about old cars.

Nice idea, but someone who's been around the block a few times, might suspect something...

We've all been around the block a few times, but what would your first instinct be if you saw a vintage Mopar sitting on the street with the hood up? :)

in front of my house, suspicious, and I know enough about cars to know if someone is bullshizzing me, so in my opinion, honesty is the best policy, show up with your Mopar, will show a kinship, hell, bring them a house warming pie and admit your trying to get on their good side and then ask about their car, not immediately go to the "is it for sale" but strike up a conversation about it, get to know the people, you'd be surprised that respect will get you farther along than BS, especially to old timers, it refreshing in this society of fakes.
