Ridiculously Overpriced Stuff Rants

I'll start this long awaited thread to unleash al the pent-up rants about extremely, ridiculously, absurdly overpriced stuff we see on the internet concerning all things Mopar.

First up is a $525 NOS fan belt. Really? Are you going to spin the engine around to see the tiny numbers on the belt at a show? Here's the link in case you want to see it:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/65-66-67-68...dge|Model:Coronet&hash=item43c0a8142f&vxp=mtr

"NOS 65-70 Dodge, Plymouth, Or Chrysler 383 or 440 fan belt, part number 2658 793."

Caveat Emptor- Let the buyer beware. Anyone who pays that is a sucker !!!

People, especially the ones on ebay, seem to think they have gold in their hands on Mopar Parts. Many was a time that I have seen a seller that keeps offering the same part at a ridiculous price and never sells. They just keep re-listing when a reasonable price would sell it. It is very frustrating for the people that need a part and would gratefully buy it at a decent price.

I take pride in being a "mopar" guy. I believe that we as mopar lovers should help out other Mopar guys so they can get their rides up and going. We don't all have money to burn. So I think if you have an extra part laying around that you don't need sell it and make a few bucks but don't rape the next guy. You never know a part that you sell somebody may be the same guy that has a part that you need to finish your ride. Or it could be the poor guy who has 7 kids to feed and just wants to "fix up" his old ride to bring back some good memories.

Agree with all that. It's sometimes hard enough to find the right part, to say nothing of shipping rates.

For me it is really quite simple. I quit selling on the eBag and now mostly purchase parts I need. May sound contradictory but I scrutinize very carefully the parts I need and try and choose the least expensive. But if the price seems realistic and is within my budget, then I buy it. When it comes to selling parts I have and no longer need, I sell here on FBBO and the other 2 sites Joey has. Moparts I avoid at all costs...cr8crshr/Tuck

If no one buys it, it'll never sell. Supply and demand. Why complain, just don't buy it. If you need the part then it's up to you to decide what you will pay. It's the owners choice if they want to sell in the first place. It's simple for me, I just don't buy that kind of stuff.

Yea I wont use ebay to buy or sell. You almost never get what you think your getting. I miss the day before ebay when Hemming's was the only source out there. People that paid for the adds seemed honest and everything I got through there was as expected. Things like BJ and Mecum and ebay are hurting the hobby more than helping it with trumped up prices. Everything is one of a kind gold these days.

I think anyone has the right to ask whatever price they want for their parts. If the price is too high, don't buy it! No one can force others to purchase something they don't want, need or can't afford. It takes less time to ignore the "absurdity" than it does to post and complain about it. (lol)

Some people know that there's a market for even total junk. I can't believe anyone bid ANYTHING for this useless bit of rust:

That looks sweet....just sent the link to a friend of mine really into Javelin's :rolling::rolling:

Hmmm, but if you want a brand new one, MOPAR Authentic Restoration grade no less, be prepared to pay...$31. http://www.gastanks.com/1969-Water-Pump-Belt-383-440-CI-w_-AC/productinfo/B-4608A/

This is the way the market works. A seller that is asking over the top prices will wait longer (if ever) for a buyer.
A buyer that is looking for a low price will need to be looking long and be on the spot ready when it comes up.

Those that advertise high prices don't set the values. It's the selling price that is the tell of value.

Guy at the swap today bought a small push on chrome knob with "Warm on it for his 62. $2, maybe $5? Nope, $10. If I had one on my shelf it would have been given to someone who needs it.

What I find humorous is the folks that list a part for an extravagant price at the same time that identical items are listed at much lower prices.

Who the hell buys a repro brake pedal pad for $109 when there are dozens listed for $19 to $29?

the problem is also when I am on other sites like the pro touring one, everyone goes on about how expensive mopar stuff is, especially the chebbie guys and that's one of the reasons that don't own mopars they reckon, so all there comments are probably encouraging people who own mopar parts to drive the price up

Some of you get it.

So, feel free to post links to parts and such that are overpriced.

I love when someone posts and asks what a part they have is worth, and everyone on the thread jumps to tell them some outrageous price they think he can get for it. Yeah, that helps too (rolls eyes).

DYNOMAT! I cannot believe people pay that, it's freakin insulation people actually it's not even insulation it's a deadening mat! Things like that really tick me off because you know it cost very little to produce but because they've carved out a name for themselves they can rip everybody off.

I hear you on that. You can buy the same stuff at Home Depot for 1/100th the cost of Dynomat. There's a sucker born every minute.
