It is really sad that we would have to look at doing things like this but what do you think about making for sale ads available only to gold members or at least being on here for 6 month or a year and being a contributing member. This is more of a question on what you think as opposed to a request. It's not going to stop all the con artists but may help stop things like this from happening:

Also I was looking today....There are soooo many usernames on here last seen 4 years ago etc. Any way we can make an account that is inactive for more than 2 years or whatever just go away? Although I do miss members like propwash around here who has been gone for quite some time now.

Just my two cents, but here goes:
I think six months of membership and contributing before selling, and gold membership.
If you’re selling you’re making money on the site. And it’ll help stop some of the dipshits that post dumb stuff.

I've noticed that the first thing some new members do is list what they have for sale not what they ride or get acquainted with the membership. just my 2 cents

How about we just delete the whole God Damm For Sale section and everything related to it, then none of us would have to deal with any of this ****, and continually have to read about other peoples troubles with sellers because of their ignorance!

i found this site and joined to be able to buy parts for my car. if you pay attention to the seller you can pick up a hint to there way of doing bizz. if i wasn't sure i would start a post who know,s so and so or has anyone bought from this guy and the member would let us know what they think. getting rid of for sale post i thing you would loose a fair amount of good people. just my opinion.

Totally agree, not advocating eliminating it or any restrictions at all on buying. This post is regarding sellers and as I mentioned, I find it sad that these things happen. Just thinking that (maybe) some restrictions would help protect members. Maybe not, that's why I posed the question.

i see your point and as a buyer i thank you and others that try and watch out for its members that is why im still hear.

Well, You can't always blame it on the sellers. A buyer needs to look at the sellers post count and time on the site.. I mean I wouldn't buy jack **** from a guy that has only posted in the for sale section and only been a member 2 months. The buyers need to be aware of who they are buying from. Maybe the sellers should have to submit name address and phone number to the admins before they can post for sale ads. That would weed out the evil doers and cause them to run away. Or
Make for sale ads cost 1.00 per ad. The site makes money and also the seller is then on record for paypal information and that would also give the admins names and information.

that sounds like a good start. the admins could cross check there info to vet the address for the seller and the buyer would check with the BOSS'ES to see if legit ? maybe say a part under a said dollar amount would be on the buyer but say over 300.00 ?

Vetting is a good idea. I'd say the time and contribution requirement is a solid choice.

First I'd like to say I am not siding with the seller mentioned in the first post! I think that whole thing circles back to buyer beware. It's always better to actually see it before buying. With that being said. Changing things here so some members can't sell on the site, is not right. I'm sure there are a lot of members who have to sell things to fund their projects. Even though it does seem like the way to fix problems now days, is to take rights away from good people because douche bags are screwing everything up.

....not too sure that's what they were driving at sir, but I feel you. One as to build a reputation....and the only way to do that is via trust, and the ability to do so. Current system is OK for me.

My biggest complaint is a) senseless usernames and b) fictitious locations like "State of confusion" or "the far north". An ad by "fastguy" from "the state of confusion" is not going to get much of my attention !! I'm not a big fan of looking up zip codes since they're peculiar to the US but they're far better than some BS location.

I don't think any changes are necessary.
The gentleman that bought the fake convertible made a very poor decision.

And what constitutes "gold membership" anyway ???

Th problem as I see it is that some people have the belief that buying a part or even a car from a forum dedicated to that brand/type is safer than buying off something like eBay or CL when in reality it isn't. Sure, there are some dedicated members on every forum who are honest passionate enthusiasts but as the saying goes, where there is money there are criminals. Sense Mopar cars/stuff became valuable it brings all sorts of people out of the woodwork. IMO no matter what you do, there will be issues of some sort. We all know you can get screwed at a swap meet when you are standing there holding the part, but in the end (and as noted) the buyer has to do his/her part as much as they can and even then things will happen. With that said and just a suggestion/idea; perhaps a thread titled something like "thinking of buying" where members could post a quick note that they are thinking of buying something listed and other members could chime in. Yes, that will definitely ruffle some feathers as soon as someone says the item is too expensive or they will sell theirs cheaper, but perhaps those could be addressed in the rules of the thread. Essentially, the thread would only be able the sale of that price, could include questions of fitment as well. I think it would be helpful for inexperienced members, however I realize that many will not like it (especially people selling things). On the positive side though, it might keep some people honest...
