I always thought this was illegal as well. But, there is a guy that goes to swap meets here in Ontario, selling ownerships for old cars for the last 10 to 15 years. I suspect these must be from old junk yards.

I am fairly certain that it is a Federal offence to swap serial numbers. Not positive about the fender tags.

Maybe there is a loophole if you sell it as “wall art”. Then they build a car with the documents afterwards. I’ve come across quite a few guys trying to sell tags off of stuff, most of them openly recommend tag swapping a basic car to turn it into the valuable one. It’s crazy how so many people find this **** acceptable.

He’s had this posted multiple times over the last 3 or 4 years. If only he kept the rusty shell, it would’ve been worth saving.

why keep the rusty shell? it gets replaced with donor or aftermarket metal...... dont you guys watch graveyard cars?

If he was near me I would race up there and buy it.
There's a great '68 coronet shell near me...

I think Ian is right here. It’s very likely not an offence to sell it, but when it comes time to swap it into a car, that’s where the offence comes in. A lot of cars in a junkyard are there do to accident too, which makes me wonder if they are subject to an right off inspection after the swap and the job is done?

Either way I don’t really like this activity. Once they’re gone they’re gone.

you just pulled the plug on half the member builds here :popcorn2:

its ok to replace one rusty piece at a time....... just don't do it all in one shot...... LMAO

Well, I don’t know about that. There is a big difference between resurrecting a rusty old shell with new sheet metal and donor parts than there is just blatantly changing serial numbers. To each their own, I just don’t think it’s an honest practice.

How would you feel if you bucked up for that 6 pack r/t challenger to later find out it’s a fake? My guess is, not good, or p’d off

You can buy an entire new repro Challenger body from Dynacorn that is only missing a vin plate and fender tag.

actually...... there isn't much of a difference........ survivors are survivors, the rest are varying degrees of reconstruction.....these days it usually takes 2-3 cars to build one, unless you construct it out of the AMD catalog...... if no parts are stolen, it's just a restoration.....driveline parts with VIN numbers are swapped all the time, they are considered "non numbers matching"...... my opinion

Some members here have made it very clear where they stand. I just don’t share the same view.

Just because some one ‘did it’ doesn’t make it right.
