Charging electric cars

Technology is constantly changing and when a electric vehicle can travel 500 miles on a single 5 minute charge with smaller more. light weight batteries, people will buy them. That day I'm positive will come.

That day is a long way off. If you want power that is clean and most importantly, US energy independence, battery power is not the way to go.

I'm not against electric cars, but battery power is equal to the curly fluorescent light bulbs that we were forced into 20-25 years ago. We need what is powering the UFOs.

If you really were concerned with U.S. energy independence you wouldn't bitch about replacing the incandescent bulb.
You wouldn't complain about technology replacing the internal combustion engine and you would forbid your employees from using cordless tools

FYI, I replaced my incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs. I never bought the curly bulbs because they sucked.
My employees use mostly all cordless tools because they work well in construction applications. You have one battery in the tool and one charging. They are small and easy to swap out. The same cannot be said for an automobile.

Sheesh, what a grouch!

I certainly hope all of the passionate people here for green technologies are putting their money where their mouth is and driving a hybrid car. You can do your part today while waiting for charging technology to evolve.

Actually, I'm doing my part by working from home so I dramatically reduce my car use.

And how do we get to what is powering UFO's? We try and invest in new technology id think. We had fluorescent and went to LED, big improvement, nobody in the trades used battery tools 20 years ago, now everyone uses them.
Do you not think the same could be said for EV in another 30 years
Do we just stand still and complain or maybe we could construct a 1,000 megawatt coal burning power plant down the block from you.
I don't ever want a electric vehicle, I'll stick with what I know but I will not deny what the future holds, what science tells us and the continuing evolving technology, unless of course you believe the big lie.

It's an Unfortunate Truth that E.V.s are inferior in almost every way possible. Yeah, yeah, torque. That'll do you a lot of good in a prius. I know it hurts some people's feels but that's just the way it is. The science is settled. 9 out 10 experts agree. Some people, like a broken record, just keep repeating over and over what they're told by so called elite who tell them E.V.s are the future and there's no other choice. Charging E.V.s sucks.

This thread reminds me of the one about the $10 tomatoes.
Round and round we go.

Some battery powered tools are convenient and yes i like them. That doesn't mean everything needs to be battery powered. Is your tv battery operated? How about your freezer, dishwasher, oven, house lights, furnace, water heater, washing machine, dryer? They could be, but no, they're not, because that would be stupid just like a battery powered car. I'll stick with my 5 minute fillup 500 mile range fossil fuel co2 emitter.

It's pretty silly to ask about a battery dishwasher, freezer or dryer, those items don't move around and so even though usually electric, a fixed power source makes sense. I have seen battery powered televisions though, but never a diesel or gas powered one. If you think a battery powered car is stupid, then do as you say and stick with your car. Not everyone, including me, needs every vehicle in the driveway to be capable of 500 miles when I'm lucky to drive that much in an average month. That aside, I don't think I'll be getting an electric car any time soon because of the initial purchase cost.

Yeah a diesel powered tv would be pretty silly now wouldn't it. How about if by 2030 your electric tv was banned and TPTB were gonna force you to buy a diesel tv? That would be pretty silly but that's what some of our states are trying to do by forcing people off of gas and onto electric cars. This is not a politcal post but just a fact and it's why people have an issue with E.V.s

I would first have to see if the diesel tv forced on me had better reception, more channels and clearer sound before making that decision. :)

They're pretty cheap. Only $16,000 dollars to replace the batteries on a model 3. It's one of their main selling points.

https://www.thedrive.com/tech/38915/it-costs-nearly-16000-to-replace-a-tesla-model-3-battery-pack
That is cheaper then the $25,000 I had found. Could not find anything on the life of one. May have to try something different and see how long the model 3 has been in existence. First ones built in 2017. Ok even at $16,000 for a new battery just what was the saving? Any of you pro electric car people care to answer that?

Savings don't matter because it has awesome torque! And Elon promised a 5 minute 500 mile recharge sometime in the next 100 years.
