1970 Chevelle Malibu Convertible. 307 2bbl, automatic, AC, PS, manual brakes. Odometer shows 88XX miles, and I would think 108XXX. Original paint and upholstery as far as I can tell. We went through the brakes, fuel system, and replaced a front seal due to oil leak. Also flushed the cooling system and supplied fresh antifreeze, New fuel pump, fresh gas and oil.
This is a one family owned car from new. The person that owns it, just asked me to try to sell it. I assumed that with hiring us to get it road worthy after being unused for the last 5 years that she was wanting top dollar, which according to Hagerty is 31,500 in good condition. From some of the conversations the sentimental is not that great.
I went over the car today and here is what we haven't addressed.
Heater core is looped off.
Needs muffler work.
Tires are old, but not dry rotted.
Top Switch is missing the knob.
The AM/8 Track radio is inoperable.
I don't have a dog in this race other than the parts and labor already involved, which right now is $900 plus parts. If I address the other issues this will increase.

I posted this in general discussion as I'm not a GM person and would like feedback. I will present all offers. PM me here and I will answer questions or concerns.

Most of the stuff I'll say you already (should) know too

I'm not 100% sure of what you want or asking

Appears to be solid, 88k miles isn't bad at all

That's an appealing year & model 1970 2dr Malibu
convertible to boot
Malibu is the Chevelle's, redheaded not so attractive step-sister,
lower price line/lower performance version too

Butternut Yellow ? (piss yellow/brown interior, albeit looks clean)
color may hold it back some,
maybe do a quick cut (block) & buff, make it look better, not so dull

under the area the top folds down into, if it's rusty
that will be a big negative, maybe some POR or rust stop

the rear arms/top bushings on the upper control arms are prone to wear
so is the front lowers

The nonfunctioning 8 track is a bit of a hit too
out of date anyway, could be repaired,
not sure it will bring much if any more

Heater core
I'm sure you probably already know, is probably bad
PITA job too, under the dash & in the engine compartment

at least it has a 3 speed auto, probably turbo Hydro 350
maybe a slightly higher value (than a Powerglide)

the 307 is nearly the bottom of the barrel/undesirable smog turd
when it comes to Chevy v8s
anybody buying a 307 car will be OK with the 2 bbl
if they want to keep it stock

parts are available everywhere, it's a 1970 Chevy & a popular year/model

if the tires have tread & hold air, don't look worn really bad on any of them
it may be a place you can save or not do
just clean them up,
That might be a good place to add a bit of style, with new tires too
it will "test drive" better also, if you do tires, maybe do an alignment too

does the AC work ?
that could be a big selling draw +$$$ or a big negative -$$$ hit if it doesn't

Power Steering is a plus,
manual brakes is a negative, probably the small drum brakes too
doesn't look like it has many options
(except the 2 big ones AC & Convertible)
base motor/engine
Oh yeah the TH350 is pricey when a new option

I don't notice much if any rust,
MC is rusty

maybe a detail under the hood
clean it really good
maybe a rattle can resto, valve-covers intake etc.
that requires some work thou, but would look better

maybe do the universals on the driveshaft
easy & cheap, 1 less clunk
maybe change the shocks, 80k they are due, cheap & easy too
do a lube job on the chassis, and zerk fittings all over

the exhaust should be an easy deal
replace whatever section is bad, readily available
(GM specialty Parts stores or local Napa)
or take it to a muffler shop, have them do it

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I just saw a 1970 Chevelle Vert. cowl hood, white body & blue top/interior,
with a strong 350/T350
listed for $27,500 (not a Malibu, same body style, 1 step up)

a couple of 2 dr HTs Malibu's 350cid for $13,500 & $14,500
about the same car 'without a convertible top' or AC, & more miles

I don't think the $31k is outrageous
but depends on the final condition of the car, how it shows/drives

out here they are a lil' more $$$
not rust, you could get that probably easily

good luck

Low buck ragtop with a easy driving small block. Color would be the down fall, a swap of some used wheels and tires to spruce it up? It really looks solid.. It could make a nice entry level car for someone just getting into the hobby. Other stuff is just maintenance so no biggie. Best of all factory ac with a drop top and a V8! What it’s worth, it all depends.. hopefully it doesn’t get LS swapped and some 20s etc.
Just my opinion..

AC has been retrofitted to 134, I and haven't tried it yet. Solid car, apparently kept inside most of its life. No apparent rust other than surface rust in the trunk, but no rust through. It's rained 5 times since it got to my place so I noticed that there is a leak to the trunk area. Carpet remnants in the trunk and we all know how that holds water. I will have to look at the top liner as that may be the source of the leak. The top is in great shape and I can't say if it's original or not. It runs good for what it is, that is after the tires became round again. No shaking, vibrations, or rattles. There were a couple of new roof rail seals in the car so we installed those and no more air noise. Forgive my rambling as I'm just typing as I think of things.
