I'm pretty sure the first mtv video I saw was Jump by VanHalen probably around 1984 at a friends house who had a satellite dish the size of a small car!

Had a few of her albums back in the day, what a voice, ususally wasn't attracted to brunettes that much, but she was somethin, saw her at a small venue in Jackson at the potter center 25 years ago, with her husband Neil geraldo I think. Mtv was the **** back then, a friend of mine always said the MTV ruined the world Another drywaller of course.

MTV went on to forever change the music business. First inspired by work in New Zealand from a show called Radio In Pictures, which came out in 1976 and was a concept that had been around since the mid 60's. The 60's was a happen time and just added fuel to all of this. Peace out............ !!

MTV back then actually played music videos, unlike today. But every once in a while I catch Head Bangers Ball.

I loved MTV back in the 80's. Very useful tool in discovering the name of the artist or song if I missed it when listening to the radio.

I remember a mtv video in the early days of a Joe Walsh song…can’t remember the song though. He was trying to kill a fly in his hotel room and ends up destroying the entire place. Funny stuff.
I cant find it anywhere now.

If you recall, VH1 was a more mellow version of MTV & they're long gone.

VH-1 is still around.

Mainly playing "behind the music" style documentary shows and "theme" period shows like an hour of 80's or 90's songs, or an hour of rap or metal.

Canada had a similar show called Much Music. It was pretty good. One of the original VJ’s was Erica Ehm. We called her Erica Airhead. She was a pleasant, ditzy sort of girl with girl next door good looks. Then they did a remote from some resort, Jamaica, I think. The scenes of her around the pool are an underground Canadian legend. Good lord was she hot. It’s worth searching out on YouTube.

Oh yes...... the charismatic (not) host Karyn Hay..... she was so enamoured by one lead singer of a band she ended up fan-girling and marrying him.



I remember well an evening with my 6th form class (year 12) at a friend's house...Radio with Pictures was on TV, and we had a great time .....our English teacher was there also. She made a subject up where we examined the song "Stairway to Heaven" .... the class dumby perked up and excelled in that project.

My nephew worked for Concord Cable/Comcast
& he installed "a pirate box" (it was like just cut the orange wire)
like 2 days prior, & I had every channel there was...
He told me about it,

was mostly Jazzercize videos
close up of babes bent over/crotch shots, set to rock & roll

Ted Nugent w/scantly dressed young babes (great music),
Van Halen/David Lee Roth bouncing around, Eddy with some great licks
AC/DC Angus Young/Von Scott (great tunes),
Kiss was a spectacle, a huge favorite
ZZ Top & their cars, Bob Seger (2 other great ones)
The Nack, Dr. Hook & Medicine Show, Phil Colins, Foreigner, The Cars,
Devo, Rossington Collins Band, Blue Ouster Cult, Queen - We are the Champions
Molly Hatchet (southern rock), Aerosmith, & Boston (those were great ones)
Twisted Sister had some funny videos, actual/acting plot to music...

Dire Straights, Money for nothing MTV, 1985-ish (?)


Lots of 'Hair bands' coming in then too

I remember Lisa Kenndy as a MTV-VJ 1990 (a bit later, she's 52 (?) born in 72'),
from Oregon, lady from Fox New now

even KFRC AM, was still big deal in the East Bay Area too, in 1981-ish
