If you have been following along I`m working on a `70 road runner ( thread here- `70 road runner, FC7, 383, 727 It`s waited long enough, finally time to get it done. ) and I have a couple decisions to make. I am doing a 90% stock resto on it with a couple add ons like an air grabber hood and Dust Trail stripes along with a few Day Two mods such as period aftermarket wheels, headers/exhaust etc. First is the easier one - car came four wheel manual drums but thinking of putting on front discs as I do drive my cars, many times a bit hard and fast so it would be more for safety. Second is the hard one I am agonizing over a bit - it came M2X9 mediium grade black bench seat but I am thinking of changing it over to white as that just makes the FC7 pop so much better than black interior and is my favorite color combo on a Mopar. Both are easily changed back (interior is more work/cost though) if myself or the next owner (after I`m dead) wanted to but the interior color change to me is a major mod from the fender tag (I don`t have a broadcast sheet). I know the "it`s your car, your choice" response but I`d rather here more form the stock type/resto guys on this - thoughts/opinions?

Easy. Do what you want to. Your not making any major changes to the car. If the next owner doesn’t like white interior he can change it. BTW I like the white! As to the brakes, stick them in a plastic tote and label it. Put it away. When the sells if the owner doesn’t like disc brakes well heres the drums.

This is pretty much exactly what I`m thinking. Are there still disc conversions that are not too expensive that bolt onto the drum spindles as that would save me some money and make the swap easier to make and undo, I don`t need anything fancy?

I also love the white, my Barracuda came EV2 with white interior and I kept it that way, not much else was left stock.

Do the interior the way you want it to be,the next owner can make it correct if they want to. I always upgrade the cars to disc brakes. I use 73/74 B or E body spindles because the later unicast rotors are 59 bucks each, verses 250 for the 70 to 72 rotors. You will have to use the bearings and seals for the 73/74 spindles, they are larger diameter than the earlier ones. I use the 70 pin type calipers, hoses and brake pads.

Disc brakes: I don't see this devaluing this car, so there is no downsize except the cost of the parts. Do it.

White interior: For consideration, white yellows over time and mars and shows stains much more than black. Another reason I prefer dark interiors is that it is less of a distraction when driving.

This ^^

Agree with disk brakes, some go all around, but I was happy doing the fronts, remarkably better stopping. Color is of course very personal. I’ve never been a fan of a white interior, but having black interiors in a couple of the verts I’ve had, wished I’d a had a lighter color. What’s impressed me is a matching interior to exterior color, in some shades such as blue, red, green…back when this was an option. Or those mated with a nice color contrast. As said, it is YOUR ride and as Ricky Nelson said, “…you can’t please everybody, so you got to please yourself”.

110% do the brakes. I remember vividly being 19 years old. going way too fast. standing on the 4 wheel drum non power brakes with everything I had. going through a red light just missed a car filled with a family all screaming in terror.
If you want to drive your car have good brakes and comfy seats

I am doing disc brakes on my all original 66, using 73 dart spindles and the smaller discs. These work phenomenal on my 66 hemi car that was power 3" drum brakes, but these cars are too valuable to skimp on brakes. A well set up and adjusted set of 11x3 drums will stop really well but fade in todays traffic and curvy roads. White interior would make the car stand out, just use the original seats and recover them. Retain any black parts in good shape in case you change your mind.

I`ll do the discs, I while back I thought there were rotors that used the stock drum spindles and that would save me money, anyone know a source/manufacturer? I love my white interior in my Barracuda and also any color OTHER than black, to me black is boring/plain and it`s all too common. Yes white does yellow a bit over time but really not that bad on a car that is garaged most of the time.

I have some willwood hubs that are supposed to fit onto a drum spindle. Brand new. I decided to go a stock route, as these would be perfect for the cobra brake swap.

Yes and yes. I loved the FC7/white combo on my Cuda. I think if it had been black I would have changed it to white as well.
