Well started to clean the rear end up 8 1/4. It has the 271 gear tag on it. Might have to find some other gears. I think Rebel @eldubb440 dog had a talk with Thor , guess he wants to be the foremen .

every shop needs a foreman........ and you need an 8 3/4 ........ I have one for you; all you gotta do is pick it up.

The gears for those 8 1/4" axles can be found all the way until around 1996 models. The Dakotas and Durangos used that axle.
I was tempted to use a 3.92 that a FABO friend has but without an overdrive, that is a steep gear!

my Dakota and Durango have some big housing with a 12 bolt cover, 6 lug axles, both 3:54; the Dakota is a sure grip ("anti-spin differential").......

the sure grip will eventually find it's way into the Durango.........if I don't narrow it, get 5 lug axels, and stick it under an AMX

Maybe I have it wrong about the Durango. There were Dakotas with the 8 1/4" axle though. I pulled one 8 years ago for this car:



The 8 1/4" axle had a LONG run. My own red car came with one with the 2.71 gear, so did Jigsaw. They put them in A-B-FMJR bodies.

Keeping it original till its done and then it will be I need a Big Block. I like doing things twice.

Oh yeah, the 9 1/4" axle has been around awhile too. I have them in a trailer and my daily...the 2007 Dodge.

So last couple of days cleaning/painting rear end. Popped cover and changed the gear oil. Do the sell the rubber boot that seals the emergency brake cable to the backing plate?

Finally on all 4 wheels on the ground. Just got done installing the rear end today. Had to cut the tips off of the exhaust I bought. It was on a 70 charger but who would put those tips on a charger. Have to order the lh exhaust bracket tonight.

Chipping away at it. Riley is foremen today. Sand and priming splash shields and tank straps,just got my dr side exhaust mount today. Sway bar is in and side markers installed.
