An acquaintance has a well used dual snorkel air cleaner thatI’m interested in buying. It appears to be for a 70 383/440. No pics. He hasn’t a clue what to ask for it as he’s a Chevy guy. What would be a reasonable offer for it?

A 70 is one year only and should have triangular gussets on both snorkels when you look at it between the legs. Newer have one triangle and a funky shaped ones, even newer all funky.

Paid for $450 for mine.

Tell him he will never use it ,offer $200 cash.

Crazy what these are selling for these days no matter what year or applications. I had probably scrapped or given away 50+/- of various year air cleaners over the years back when aftermarket chrome everything was cool.

The guy sent me some pictures I asked for

The inside of each snorkel. Looks like this is a 70 based on the info provided here and on Nick’s Garage websiteIMG_7882.jpeg

Any obvious damage:

He said someone tried to fit it to a small block with a Sanden compressor and “relieved” the front of the bottom to fit. He used part of another air cleaner to begin the repair which is wheee he stopped. He’s asking me to make an offer

Fifty dollars because of his stupidity. Kim
Thanks Kim! That “repair” looks like it needs to be completed. I won’t say it would be a piece of cake, but compared to all the metal work done to convert my wagon to a sedan delivery, it doesn’t look that hateful. We’ll see what he says

I have a 1972-73 400 4-Barrel dual snorkel air cleaner housing, not on the car. on the car I just have a 3 inch round air cleaner. Would the car run better if I put the dual snorkel on the car and ran ducts from the snorkels to the front of the car so I can get cooler air? Or should I just sell the dual snorkel? my engine is a 440 and omits a ton of heat which may be good as for atomized air-fuel mixture?

If you have an aftermarket intake, chances are the dual snorkel won’t fit. It will be too tall.

Good point, but if it did fit, would the design I propose provide better performance results in order to grab fresh air from the front of the car?

I’m not sure. You would think so because the snorkels are grabbing air at the hood vents. Are your hood vents opened up? I changed mine for a more stock appearance. I switched out the edlebrock torker intake for a stock 440 1971 intake. My hood vents are opened up.

I do not have hood vents. I would need to run the vents to the front of the car somewhere

This doesn't answer your question, but may interest you. Engine masters air cleaner shootout, they test a Mopar dual snorkel and run it as is and also with one snorkel taped off. And with the lid flipped.
