7 years later... I did the same thing a long time ago, 70 charger as well and I still have this exact behavior. Finally decided to fix it. Do you remember what you did to fix it, of you fixed it? Thanks.. still cruising through all these posts.
New accelerator pump fixed it! Running great again. Ended up tweaking the floats a tad l, opened the a/f screws 2 turns to get it idling and bent that rod a bit so the pump moves right away.
Still need to do plugs and timing.
Question. The seal the comes down with the accelerator pump. My...
No idea, its had this carb since I bought it 30yrs ago. Its a Carter. It's a 4617s I believe. Yes rebuilt myself with a Wagner kit.
Will check the accel pump.
'70 Charger ('69 340 w/ freshly rebuilt carter avs with floats set at 7/32 and 1/2" drop. a/f screws are 1.5 turns out)
clean gas tank, new fsu, new fuel pump, rebuilt carb, clean carb fuel filter/screen, fresh non eth gas. Sat for several years until now.
Car idles great and runs pretty darn...
Update.
Tank reinstalled, new fuel filter, fresh gas, float set right and it idles great. needs a little tuning but happy its running again. Got another question but probably not float related so will start a new thread for it. Thanks all.
FLT 100-124 is the replacement float I got that almost matches the others. I guess it's "large". Only difference I see is the drop adjustment tab.
Also makes sense now, at 7/32 they will be much closer to parallel.
Really appreciate the specs, I would've been way off!
I have a Carter AVS 4617S on a 1969 340. It used to be my daily driver but it hasn't been driven regularly in quite some time.
I rebuilt the carb and am trying to get the floats set right.
What I think is a simple question... should the float be parallel to the top when setting the height?
I...
actually, oil pressure gauge isn't hooked up-- that's something I need to prioritize and check for sure!
Like intake leak? No, but the noise is pretty obvious on the valve cover with a stethoscope, doesn't that eliminate it being an exhaust leak?
