This post reminds me that in October 1965, when I was a member of the ROTC Drum & Bugle Corps at N.C. State University, we were invited to be a part of the ceremonies at the opening day for Rockingham Motor Speedway. During the race, we were in the infield with access to the pits. The noise of...
My '69 Charger (original owner, yippee!) is in restoration now. It has and will have the original left-hand nuts.
A short true story: Back in the '30s my father was a kid. His family was driving a Dodge at night to visit my grandfather's brother. Grandpa was incapacitated for some medical...
I'm using a laptop and I don't have a smart phone to scroll on. If I hit that red X, it was inadvertent. I certainly didn't intend to click it, so sorry if I did.
Well, I've been doing it my way for about a year now. Nice to know somebody out there is making those hex rod tools, but I'm afraid I don't see how turning the pump that way does anything different from turning it with the starter. I'll be repainting the rocker covers soon, so I'll have a...
I squirt oil onto the cylinder walls via the sparkplug holes before turning the engine. Doesn't the oil pump take care of that when the engine is running?
'69 Charger 383 HP: Body has been under restoration since August 2022. Meanwhile, engine was rebuilt and returned to me in March 2023. Until it is reinstalled, engine rebuilder recommended periodically oiling the engine via the oil pump drive under the distributor using a drill motor. I was...
If I knew that my engine was supposed to have a pie tin I might be interested in buying one if available; however, if all 383 HP engines didn't have them and mine did not from new, I wouldn't. To my knowledge, a "Magnum" 383 was the 335 hp version, which I do have.
My wife and I were in the same class in 6th and 8th grades, became a steady couple in 1960, married in 1967 -- two years before our baby joined us: 1969 Dodge Charger 383 HP and 4-speed. We bought it new and still own it, hopefully coming to the end of a 16-month restoration. I think I'll...
The long spacer goes between the ears of the alternator (it keeps the bolt from squeezing the ears together and possibly breaking one off, the short spacer goes between the alternator and engine block, and the washer goes under the head of the bolt.
Thanks to all for the photos. I finally figured out the problem with fitting the alternator was with the spark plug wire guide behind the alternator. I had it mounted upside down. However, one thing I noticed in almost all the photos posted: I do not have the triangular bracket attached to...
Hello, Charger Folks!
My Charger is currently finishing a 14-month restoration of the body. I made a lot of photos before pulling the engine for rebuild, but apparently not enough of them. I'm having trouble getting the alternator installed and am hoping someone can provide some photos to...
I am the original owner of my '69 Charger, currently under restoration. The spare wheel is original and the original paint was mostly intact, but had some minor corrosion spot and dings and scratches. I treated the corrosion and
repainted it with VHT SP671 Satin Black spray paint (no primer...
