Exactly! I also have an MG Midget with silicone fluid and it required a repaint due to an engine bay fire. Seemed like no amount of sanding and cleaning would get rid of all the fisheyes (fortunately, in the engine bay only). Still, my belief is that silicone is less of a problem than DOT 3 or 4.
I converted my Austin-Healey to silicone fluid in the 1980s, first flushing the lines with isopropyl alcohol. Never had any leaking or any other problems since, but there is one downside to silicone. If you get it on painted surfaces and need to repaint them at sometime down the road, it's...
I find the factory parts manual about as confusing as clarifying when it comes to the Charger. First of all the car line codes at the top (e.g.: V, B, L, R, W, P, D) do not define a separate code for Charger, but it has D for Dodge. Illustration 19a2038A shows the Charger front bumper and...
Hard to tell without having the other style next to it, but that one looks more like the flat one to me. The Chrysler parts manual definitely shows different part numbers for front and rear bumper bolts, but apparently no one knows the reason. Both style bolts fit in either location.
Hi, Chargerfiles!
Before sending my '69 Charger off for restoration of the body, I removed the front and rear bumpers and they didn't leave the garage until the car came back home (2-1/2 years later). As the original owner, I know the bumpers had never previously been removed from the car...
Thanks for that. I've never even been into that part of the manual and wouldn't expect to find the vacuum system in "Body and Frame". Anyway, it still doesn't tell me where each of the three hoses goes where it connects to the headlight doors. From the switch on the dash to the vacuum...
Hi, Bbody-philes -
My '69 Charger has the vacuum-operated headlight doors, which I like and don't plan to convert. The car has come back to me from a 2-1/2 year restoration, and with the original vacuum hoses, but disconnected beyond the firewall. I'm trying to put it back together so the...
My '69 Charger with 383 came home from the restoration shop missing a few parts and I'm trying to complete the missing installations. Specifically, the throttle cable. From reading this thread, it seems that there is a lot of confusion about how the cable interfaces with the firewall and the...
Thanks for the response, koosh. JEGS states "Fits select" cars but does not state what "select" means. Also says "See Fitment Tab for all applications" but they have that tab pretty well hidden. I can't find it. I'm really confused about this subject since there are all kinds of speedo...
My '69 Charger (4-speed) returned from restoration missing its original speedo cable, which apparently was removed and lost or disposed of. I need to replace it and noted the previous discussions about the importance of the correct-length cable. Year One has a cable (P/N NG488) claiming to be...
I'm replacing the chromed plastic armrest bases (front and rear) in my car. There seem to be several different options for sources. Are there any recommendations, or any that I should avoid?
Thanks!
