Yeah this truly IS a huge mess.
Everything is wrong, except one thing; the 3.73s are right, for a manual trans, and that 236/244/110 cam. . Anything less, with a low-cylinder pressure, small-cube engine, is gonna be sluggish; especially in a heavier car.
The first thing you gotta do is a...
Yur gonna lose some, a good amount of, take off torque-multiplication, after the 4-speed is all in. So, unless you already have 3.23s or better, you'll probably want to budget for more rear gear.
If you already know this, then just ignore me.
But if you didn't, and want an explanation; just ask.
I don't get it.
my 11/1, Eddie-headed, 367, went 93mph in the 660, @3457 pounds @900ft , on a hot July afternoon, burning 87E10..With my 230* cam the engine makes a tic under 180psi cranking cylinder pressure.
87E10; my engine loves that fuel.
Maybe my Tight-Quench makes mor difference than I...
I like being able to set my timing, and knowing it will never change, and there is no rubbing block to wear off, and no points cam to develop rounded corners, and I like that if the top bushing wears out, I will never know about it. And I like not having to reach over my fat belly twice a year...
Ok, I'll add my 2cents.
As to overdrive
If only 25% of your driving is gonna be hiway, then I would put overdrive on the backburner, especially the A833od. And here's why;
The Mainshaft gear in that box has, IIRC 21 teeth. At any one time, I doubt there are more than 2 teeth transmitting...
This IS your problem.
The Governor is the primary, and gross shift commander. The TP adjustment is just for fine tunning.
You have sped up the driveshaft, 3.23/2.94= plus 10%, so you are gonna have to mess with the governor BEFORE anything else. The throttle pressure adjustment cannot...
#1) check/adjust your hot wet fuel-level.
#2) Check your transfer-slot exposure below the Primary throttle blades; it should be no less than, a lil taller than wide. Set it there, and leave it there.
Then adjust the idle-timing to get the rpm you want. Finally re-engineer your D to get the...
I come from FABO, and we have the same problems between the 69 and down spigots being different than the 70 and up, but with the SBMs.
But I want to talk about diagnosing the overheat first.
From the beginning of this thread, I have not seen the diagnostic that condemned your rad.
An overheat...
Maybe, but over 100,000 miles I have run 87E10 the whole way, having saved thousands and thousands of dollars. This in an 11/1 Eddy-headed, 230*cam 360. Not a BBM I know, but thousands of dollars, to me is a really big deal.
Not to mention the 367 went 93 in the Eighth,@3457 pounds and 900ft...
Not a BBM, but
That must work for SBMs too. It seemed to me that the HE2430AL Hughes cam I once installed
(270/276/110;223/230@.050) in at 0 advance (180psi cylinder pressure, .034Q;
Ran nearly as good as the Hughes HE3038AL
(276/286/110;230/237@.050) in at 4* advanced, with same pressure and Q...
Ask yourself this question;
If you set the endplay perfectly today,I mean bang-on perfect; how long can you expect it to stay perfect, and how can you know...... because it could be twenty years from now, before you check it again, and I can guarantee two things; 1) it will not be perfect any...
I too think your problem will be in the carb, or in the fuel, unless the timing is too much for the condition at the stumble.
However, I never start a diagnostic without first doing, if applicable, a valve adjustment, and then a compression test. And making sure the plugs are not running too...
3000 miles a year times 20 years = 60,000 miles, a half-life for an engine. Even if in 20 years you left the carb rich enough to somehow wash the oil off the cylinders, The rest of the car will have succumbed to old age anyhow.
Gas-wash is the least of my worries, and I do have a 750DP on my...
Those steel 500s, not trying to make you change your mind, are about double the weight of a same size alloy wheel, and that is gonna fight your smooth ride on anything but a smooth road.
I run 24psi in the 295/50-15 BFG rears on 15x10 alloys; and she glides right along. It corners a lil funky...
