I've spent $700 on two blocks now and both are crap. One a 76 400, the other a 73 440. Both have spots less then .100. Is it impossible to find a good block? I found someone that has some 230 400 blocks, are they any better in wall consistency. I'm at a loss, I can't just keep throw money in...

I picked up a 76 400 for $300 and it did not pass sonic check. Four front bores checked at .059, .054 on the left and .059, .056 on the right and much heavier on the opposite side. Bad case of core shift I guess. The guy I got it from might have another, I hope.
I still say a 742 and 489 will maintain a better contact pattern. I have all three housings, plus the aluminum housing. And I forget which pinion design it uses.
