You're right, but I don't think any other area in the engine compartment is much cooler. I just figured the factory one is mounted there so why not? But if it's a bad idea then I guess I could move it. Not a whole lot of places to mount it - the side aprons get the heat from the headers...

Sure, there are other ways of mounting this, this was just a simple solution using what came with the kit. A spacer that size and the needed length would have been difficult to find - even in my arsenal of garage stuff.
