727 locking dipstick length too short

Thanks for checking. Mine does not have any part numbers on the tube or on the stick.

727 locking dipstick length too short

Any idea how to check the vent? Is it just a matter of removing the shield and looking for crud in the vent hole? The trans was totally rebuilt years ago by a professional shop and was just recently installed in the car, but who knows if they did a good job cleaning everything. I have the...

Thanks guys. I guess I’ll stick with my locking dip stick and replace the trans seals.

Hummmm. I was actually hoping the Hughs tube was wrong to help explain my leaking problem.

Hummmm. I was actually hoping the Hughs tube was wrong to help explain my leaking problem. My Hughs part and the original. Tube is bent differently and different length so there is no direct comparison.

727 locking dipstick length too short

The car originally was a 383 and the 727 transmission, and tube, are original as far as I know. The original tube is a bolt on. I bought the car in 1987 and it sure looked like original rust, grease and filth. Numbers on the rail are H2801543 3306790. I measured the Hughs dipstick full mark from...

727 locking dipstick length too short

So because of the famous leaking dipstick tube problem I bought a Hughes locking dipstick #HP1235A for my 727 in a 1967 Charger. The car has a 1974 440 engine installed. After everything was up and running the transmission was leaking, a lot, around the tailshaft seal, the shift selector seal...

    Center carb vacuum question

Super information! I bought the bushings already. Did you have high idle issues resulting from the vacuum leak?

    Center carb vacuum question

I think removing the carbs may be my next step. I just ordered some new gaskets. I’m assuming they are stock thickness. The ad Didn’t say otherwise. I’m still wondering about the small leak around the throttle shaft. Worn bushings?? Thanks.

    Center carb vacuum question

    Thanks. Makes sense.

    Center carb vacuum question

Nope. No solenoid. I have found that if I push down fairly hard on the lever that’s used for a solenoid my idle drops down to near normal. The linkage is disconnected and the idle screw is all the way out. The throttle shaft has a minor amount of fuel leaking around the drivers side. Not sure if...

    Center carb vacuum question

So I have the famous high idle problem on my 440 six pack. I’ve been reading as many threads as I can find to trouble shoot, but so far no luck. My question is about the center carb vacuum ports. The top one is connected to the distributor advance and provides vacuum when the engine is rev’d. I...
