OK so I snugged up the carb base bolts a bit, which helped. I also checked the intake for leaks - nothing there. Power brake booster is not leaking. The additional airflow was coming from the PCV valve. Cap it off and the engine will idle well below 800 RPM. I also expect that the vacuum...
I found that reducing the IFR's (idle feed restrictors) was the key to leaning out the cruise AFR. My understanding is, at steady cruise, that most of your fuel comes from the transition slots. The fuel emulsion passing through these restrictions goes straight to the transition slots - not...
Thanks for all the suggestions. I checked the base gaskets - they are about 0.030". No interference with throttle blades closing. Will check carb base bolts, and watch for binding if they needed snugging.
Have yet to check intake for leaks at head interfaces. When I built the engine, I used...
Good points!
I will double check the end carb linkages. I have noticed that if the carb mounting bolts are too tight the throttle shafts start to bind slightly. Maybe mine are too loose? As long as the throttles close on their own (once opened manually), is that OK?
Yes to power...
Hello,
I have a six pack setup installed on a 493 stroker. This is a set of new generation carbs circa 2020. I am running a mopar 528 solid cam, with 20 degrees of initial timing. I also have 20 degrees of vacuum advance from manifold vacuum (no choice there, because my Promax metering block...
Just an update - problem solved...no more fuel stink. Here's what I did:
Added vapor trapper canister under package tray in trunk.
Tee'd both vent fittings on tank together and ran a hose up to to canister.
Ran hose from other end of canister down to hole in trunk = frame rail.
Use non-vented...
An update - I spoke with the folks at Vapor Trapper and they suggested the following:
1) Tee both vent ports on the tank together, and run the combined line to their charcoal canister.
2) Use a non-vented cap with this scheme.
They also believe the reason the factory went with two tank vents...
Hello all,
I have a question about stock fuel tank venting. My tank is a repro '68 installed in a B body. I have both the external vent lines connected - the short one that runs up to the shock mount crossmember area, and the the long one that runs up into the trunk and then loops up and down...
I've run into a fair amount of issues with aftermarket parts; the vendor will assure you that "it will work just fine with this modification" and then it doesn't.
Been stranded on the side of the road a time or two due to brand new aftermarket parts turning out bad/defective.
I did call Promax and they told me there would be clearance issues with the floats if I retained the Holley plate/gasket.
What concerns me is, why did Holley see fit to include these two parts if they are not needed? No answer from Promax on this...
Hello,
I have been thinking about converting my end carburetor metering plates to metering blocks from Promax (for example). I am concerned about deleting the metering body plate (thin plate) between the main body and the metering plate/block. I was told that both this plate and the gasket...
I had the same problem some time ago. Running a six pack setup on a 493 stroker, with a 528 solid cam. The engine would go lean and try to stall upon hard braking, especially headed downhill. See below for a reprint of my old post:
On the subject of fuel slosh, I found that the reason for...
