I would start at the source of pressure (master cylinder) for pressure. I would bet the mstr cyl is bad since it was described as being hard. Air makes brakes spongy, rust makes thing stick in place over the winter. Call when the bets pay off :)

Dang, a woman after my own heart.........she owns a body shop and drives a max wedge!! Doubt there are more than two max wedge cars in Winfield, Ks.

What would the actual gas mileage be on a max wedge? 8?? really 6?? At 10 mpg and 93,000 miles @.30 cents a gallon would have been the cost of a new car in gasoline alone. Big money back in the 60's Let's see this bad boy! My .02 cents
