My understanding of the temperature bypass valve is that when the engine reaches a specific temperature, the bypass opens and sends vacuum to the vacuum advance canister on the distributor.

I have an Apple Air Tag in my car. It is paired to my IPhone and unless it is at home and I get a bit away from it, I will get a notification on my phone. Of course, you have to have an iPhone for it to work.

I’m looking at my 71 FSM and it shows the torsion bar diameter for a 383 to be .88” vs a 440 being .92” so there is a difference.

I was really lucky and blessed! I am sure the carb had way to much fuel which is why I have been looking at replacing it. As far as the paint, the car is in need of a repaint already due to it having sat outside for about 5 yrs. It was covered but it still suffered.
