Just a different thought. Have you checked your backup light switch to ensure it is installed properly? If the switch and the actuator positions are reversed, it could be causing a problem whereas preventing it from going into park.
Actually, the Satellite was the only coupe of the bunch. The Sebring, Sebring Plus, Roadrunner, and GTX were all considered hardtops.

It sounds to me like, in addition to adjusting, that the crank is either too loose, becoming stripped, or not sized the same as the mechanism. It shouldn't turn independently from the mechanism.
