Some have mentioned the 360 being externally balanced, which is true. However you can get a balanced flex plate from Summit in order to run a "neutral" torque converter with that 360.
I just FINALLY completed a similar swap, pulled the original poly318 from my 65 Coronet and stuffed a 360 in...
1965 poly 318
This engine came out of my Coronet. It has almost 105,000 miles on it and was a running, driving engine when I pulled it 3 months ago. She fired up everytime, but was just getting a little tired. The engine is mostly complete, including manifolds, intake, carb, distributer...
Alright, I finally got this thing running last night, after multiple setbacks. I still have to button everything down and finalize a few things before it is driveable, but it sure was a damn good feeling finally hearing it come to life!
In the end:
1) I used the original poly drivers side...
Day 1 of the attempted motor install was an enormous pain in the ***. I made mounts to adjust for the shimming necessary and the engine still sits crooked, w the bellhousing within a millimeter of touching the damn firewall. Quite frustrated at this point. Gotta step back and re-group.
Rusty, gimme some ideas of a good scoop. My car is more a low down cruiser cruiser than muscle car; so it has to fit the look corectly. Otherwise I'll have to sell/trade the intake for something lower rise.
KB67, I am using all 360 pulleys, brackets, etc on the engine. I think I found the...
More frustrations. The brand new, aluminum high rise intake that my engine came with is not going to clear my hood. Too damn tall. Sucks, it looks so good sitting up there.
I've got a 1973 360 v8 engine and I need a deep water pump pulley. The engine has a long neck water pump on it, and the pulley that it came with doesn't line up. Anything? It has to be the 6.5" diameter pulley also, the larger diameter pulley scrubs the crank pulley.
Thanks.
Ok, I've got this thing close to ready to put in. One problem I've run into is that the water pump pulley doesn;t fit. it isn't deep enough to lineup with the rear groove on the crank pulley. The engine has a long neck water pump on it. Is my problem due to the pulley simply being wrong for the...
I know it has been a while since I posted this topic, but I have finally pulled the engine and started on the swap. I'll be sending the transmission off for a build this week. I ordered the B&M weighted flex plate this morning. Anything else I will need to get the tranny and engine mated up and...
Dude, how do you not see it? The standard 2 door 65 Coronets rear roof pillar angles back, so it's real narrow at the bottom. The car in this add has the roof pillars of a 4 door. The back side glass is larger also. Which I honestly haven't seen in a 2 door Coronet before.
Cool. Thanks. It's starting to sound a little simpler than I was making it out to be. It's just a big investment, so I guess I was getting nervous.
Keep the advice, tips, and life stories coming though. As originally stated, I'm an idiot when it comes to engines.
I posed a question close to this a year or more ago, but that deal didn't pan out. And since I have new questions, here is a modified repost.
I've got a 65 Coronet w/ stock poly and the 727 3 speed auto. I've got a new lead on a really good early 70s 360. The engine is ready to bolt in...
