    Compression test help

so I did a leak down test on the two cylinders with the lowest compression. on cylinder #2, after pumping it full of air, I smelled fuel and also heard air coming from the carb. Put my hand over it and sure enough, I could feel the air coming out. I only pumped in around 50psi. I then did the...

    Compression test help

i put new lifters and push rods in about a month ago thinking that was the problem. I also talked to a machine shop and they think the push rods are the wrong length. also they think the head gasket is blown, but they haven't seen the engine. just by what I have told them. not sure how you do a...

    Compression test help

Getting a lot of blow bye. No miles on it. The motor was rebuilt about 10 years ago. Then it sat for a few years. I then replace all the gaskets and seals in the motor in 2011. Also having some valve train noise and low oil pressure. All oil pressure components are new Milodon.

    Compression test help

so I did a compression test on my 440 today. Wanted to get some feedback on my findings and what it could mean. On the driver side on all four cylinders I got 150-155 psi, seems good to me. On the passenger side starting at the number 2 cylinder I got 120 psi, #4 135 psi, #6 140 psi, and #8...

    Noisy rockers

Update: I did the compression test today, and all the cylinders are around 120 psi. So if I'm not mistaken that tells me the rings on the piston are good. But if I'm still getting blow by, does that pint to the valves not seating properly? Another thing I notice today was the passenger side...

    Noisy rockers

Bad lifters is what I was thinking too now. What are some good lifters for the 440? I see the 440 source sells the comp cams lifters. How are those?

    Noisy rockers

Correction on the oil pressure, when it gets warmed up it runs pretty constantly around 18-20 psi. If I remember right, 20 is where I want to be at. The oil pump is a new milodon pump with a K&N oil filter. I do have an external oil system too. I have a new oil pick up screen, oil pump cover and...

    Noisy rockers

some history of the engine, when I bought the car the engine had been rebuilt six months before. That was back in 2001. In short, the engine sat for years, fast forward to 2011 and me and a buddy tore the engine apart and replaced all the seals, gaskets, and freeze plugs. put the engine back...

    Noisy rockers

Recently fired up my 440 for the first time, runs good and all. But my rocker arms are noisy as hell. Just have the stock style rockers, took the valve covers, I'm not bottoming out the valve springs, they just rattle when they aren't being pushed on by the push rods. Is this normal? Will it go...

    8-3/4 rear end fluid change

Not sure what is the correct way to do this, but in order to remove the rear diff cover, do I need to remove the axel shafts? I'm only trying to change out the fluid, and do I even need to remove the cover to do this. I was thinking of replacing the gasket as well. Any help would be greatly...

    440 no oil pressure

Today I finally got out there and was able to mess with the car. I tried turning the motor over and I'm still not registering any oil pressure. I guess I just don't understand how I can have good pressure to no pressure at all. Even if you say changing the spring in the pressure valve might work.

    440 no oil pressure

Well today I pulled the pump off to have a look at it and the pump looked fine. But did notice the cap for the pressure valve was a little loose. Tightened that a put it back on. Primed it and I was a getting some pressure on the gauge. But ran out of time, I'll start it up next weekend and see...
