My 2Cents, if you cruise the car mostly, then build it with that in mind. 383 gets better fuel economy than 440 or stroker and can be a lot of fun on the street. Change the gearing to something more cruise friendly, freshen up your 383 and go enjoy! You may even have money left over.
Talk to the techs at AMD. I am sure that there will be some structural issues to be addressed. I am sure you are quite capable, but is this conversion wise from value perspective. It seems that it would be more economical to sell the post and buy a hard top. Good luck!
1. Books don't buy cars, what you are seeing is an "average" of what known cars have sold for.
2. "Asking" price and "selling" price are often very different. When a car is exposed to a larger audience, the "asking" price is often higher.
