If engine was rebuilt 750 miles ago and you are leaking oil, take it back to the guy that did the rebuild and have him fix it! unless of course that guy was YOU!!
I've never had a Mopar product that needed throttle pedal applied when engine is warm. The OP stated that this is his first time with carbureted engine. Maybe he should just turn the key with a warm engine and if it doesn't start, then apply some pedal. Sounds to me like he flooded it!
In my house, I put the compressor in the basement and piped it to the attached garage with 1/2" thick wall copper pipe. There is a more concistant temperature & humidity in the basement than in the garage or outside shelter can provide.
