    most of them are far more rusty than cars 20 years ago........we know rust is kind of like an ice berg, you can't see the majority of it...

    That is for the reverse/low band. There is an o-ring on the shaft. No pressure on it so normally a good cleaning and RTV will seal it...

    Same here. My Matco impact has never failed to remove one. I also remove the ball joint before I remove the control arm from the car.
