I don't fill it up completely because it will make a mess. Just about 1/2 full so when horizontal doesn't come out. Valve will not prevent oil from coming out because center is open. I wait a few minutes so media gets saturated when first putting oil in.
The statement about not filling the filter because it is horizontal is not right. I have ran RB and now a Hemi with the horizontal filter and I fill it up before installing to saturate the media. I usually do this twice, because the media absorbs the oil and when you start it now takes less time...
I used Real Stuff on a stamped valve cover and it was pretty much bent up in the removal process. I took it off to replace intake manifold and I have to say it didn't leak with that stuff on it. I used Fel Pro gaskets on the covers and so far no leaks. Engine is an LA 318.
