Is it guage or gage? haha W/E

My 67 GTX fuel gauge is working but is not calibrated to show the correct level of fuel in the tank. how do i adjust it to show full,1/3,1/2 almost empty?

I have a new sending unit.

thanks:edgy:

We try to fill the tank to half full, and then bend the float arm so that the gauge reads half full, and leave it at that.

From what I have read, most of the aftermarket sending units sold for Mopars actually have OHM's output levels made for GM fuel gauges. There is no adjustment of the fuel gauge possible. I also have a '67 GTX. I am on my second aftermarket sending unit. When I fill up, my gauge reads a little over half full & with a half tank the gauge reads empty.

John :(

I just got a sending unit from the Right Stuff and it looks great but looking through the filler neck I can see the inlet sock was no where near the bottom of the tank (easy on 68-70 RR). A few tries with a tubing bender and the sock is close to the bottom and nothing interferes. Next step is to do what Histoy says and put exactly 1/2 tank and see what happens. When I checked it manually with the gauge hooked up it seemed to work.

Now I might add my sender alignment problem may not have been 100% sender related. I do have a replacement tank I bought used at a swap meet and I have no prior experience with those nor do I know who made it. It just says made in Canada.

Did you remember to install the little fuel gauge grounding strap at the front of your tank? Mine fell off and I had wacky fuel readings till i figured it out...

Just an idea...

Mopars DO NOT have the same ohm readings as GM!
all mopar gauges from the early 60's on are 75-10 ohms fuel, temp, & oil pressure.
75 empty 10 full.
GM was 0-30, 64' and earlier and 0-90 65' on up.

Sounds like you need the gauge calibrated, just like I do. I also forgot my ground strap after I replaced all the fuel system and it pegged my gauge- not good. I basically fried the gauge so it will never read correctly- it reads low now. I have contacted Auto Instruments for a $ and will probably get a new voltage limiter as well to prevent this from ever happening again. The method of Histoy will work too.

thank yew thank yew thank yew, one and all for the tips and suggestions. I'm still banging on it.

I bought one of those aftermarket gas tanks on e bay, new. I can't get it to fit or hold the sending unit in place AT ALL. Sumpin' ain't right there, so beware.

thank again to all of you,
