It's not for sale.

When people ask me if my car is for sale, I always so no. I Only get testy when they say: everything has a price, I then say: I've seen many a dead corpse at the Hospital where I worked, and never once have I seen a cadaver take their money with them. Write a check to themselves, maybe. Besides, I have the car, all you have is money. I can earn more money, but nice cars are truly rare. LOL

Got this on my antenna the other day:

image.jpg

Couple odd things about it.
One, it's actually off a printer, despite its hand written appearance.
Two, it was put on when the Charger was covered.
Three, the "god bless" bit. What if the car owner is agnostic? He just alienated a lot of folks from ever calling....

I did did give him a call, just for grins.
Asked him why he would put a note on a car he couldn't even see?
He said he and his "brother" were looking for a car to restore, and that my Plymouth (LOL, that was the ONE thing you could see, the DODGE letters on the hood) looked like a good candidate.
I told him it was an original driving survivor, and needed very little to make it 100%.
I said I would not consider anything less than 9k, but he was welcome to come have a look at it if he made an appointment.
Needless to say, have not heard back....

I always shoot people a price, you never know they just might have the cash!
Though admittedly nobody around here has ever really bought any cars from my father or I. A few parts here and there, but everything else has been shipped out around the U.S. and globe.

A couple years later I bought a 1973 Dart Sport from a guy in Wooster, Ohio in for $650.00 (eBay)......

That Dart looks real good. I'd be proud to drive that!

Wow... sure am glad I outgrew that "My Car Is My Temple" mentality. :) No offense to those who still suffer from it, I used to as well, I'm just glad I can enjoy my car without all the raging paranoia and hostility some people seem to have. I've worked hard to get my car, hard to get it back on the road, and I'm thrilled as can be when someone likes it enough to say something, or offer to buy it, or (clutch the pearls) dares to put a piece of paper on the windshield (the dirty heathens!) :) It's a car, not the Lost Ark.

Sorry my friends, but some of you guys sound an awful lot like that hot busty babe who likes to walk around with her boobs hanging out, and then getting all offended when someone notices. You're driving a very desirable car that brings back a lot of cherished memories for a lot of people, and to both cases you've got people who will be interested in buying it. You can say no without being rude, surely, snobby, or in any other way disagreeable.

As for those jerks who put the advertising fliers on the car windows, direct your .45 at them. They've got it coming!

I say if you don't like the attention, leave in the garage.

Just the other day I pulled up to a store a woman and an older gentleman were standing with some kids fund raising for softball. Now, mind, my car looks like hell up close yet they all made a fuss over it. Now, had they asked of the car was for sale, well why on earth would that bother me at all? As they say, doesn't hurt to ask.

My cars are not my temple and have actually struck up some friendships because of the them. As for the fliers under the wiper blades....yeah, that kinda pisses me off a little especially on hot days when the blades are usually stuck to the glass but it really pisses me off when someone harasses my wife to stop when she's driving down the road and then follows her home when she won't stop.

I say if you don't like the attention, leave in the garage.

Doesn't really bother me until they mess up my wipers (see above) to leave a note or knock on my door to ask if it's for sale when there's no for sale sign or harass my wife going down the road and they follow her home.

I'm with you there, Cranky. I have met more than a few jerks when my car was parked, although one time while working in Houston(1987) for Enron, a car full of Mexicans followed me in my 1968 Charger on my way to work from FM1960 all the way down I-45 to 114 Allen, and into the parking garage. Fortunately, Running the security system for the building, I knew how to cross over from one side to the other adjoining buildings. I parked in a highly secure area, and had The security staff contact Houston P.D., Whom were waiting for them when they tried to leave the garage. The guys had nuts. But follow my wife down the road? I wouldn't have been responsible for my actions. In all fairness, I can say also that most people that have seen my car were polite, very enthusiastic, and civil. But the one P.O.S. guy always sticks in your head and is harder to forget than it is to remember all the other nice people.

I'll take part of that as aimed at me.

It comes down to not touching what ain't yours without permission. It's called respect. Something the world could use a little more of.

Wow, and they say Porsche owners are pricks. How dare anyone touch your wiper blade!!! You really told that little girl off, big man.

How dare anyone compliment your car by asking if they could own it!

I don't see corpses with classic cars either.

Every car show I attend there is always someone,Hey is that for sale?No it,s not...Then I have to listen to some drawn out story of their dad or uncle used to have one...Even before the body work was done ..The paint looked like crap and bondo hangin off the rear wheel wheels, hey is that for sale? No!!!Only 1 guy really knew what I had..He was a petty fan like me...He knew that the king drove a 66 belvedere to 27 wins and that sox& martin drove a satellite to a winters national championship...That guy was a true MoPar nut like me..
NO IT,S STILL NOT FOR SALE!!!EVER!!!!!!!
Petty Blue 67 GTX

Show us a pic?

Wow, Cranky. Glad your wife was safe but...there were 65,000 cell phone users in the US in 1988 and you guys had one? Way to be ahead of the crowd!

When my car is out in public, and someone humps it, yeah... lack of respect. Licks it, lack of respect. Rubs their hands all over it, lack of respect. Puts a note on it... ah, no.

I take it as a complement, most of the time. However with the advent of all the buy low and sell high car flipping shows on tv, every other person is a wheeler-dealer TV wannabe . Most people walk up and ask "how much" and THEN they ask "what is it"...Thats usually a clue

Still, I'm always nice to folks. You never know if one of these people know where there is another one sitting in the woods somewhere, thats how a got a bunch of the hard to find parts for my car.

No, their greedy kids are usually in a pissing match with their siblings as to who gets the car, and anything else for that matter.it is not someones right to touch, grill, examine, Interrogate, or otherwise annoy someone when it comes to their car. it's called manners.
Apparently that is in short supply.

When someone asks if my ride is forsale, I am always polite, and tell them I would want way more then thecar is worth. I have yet to see anyone persistent after that.

As for leaving a flyer under the wiper blade, while it is somewhat disrespectful, I have only known that to happen at shows. I'm sure those people are lectured about being careful, and i haven't allowed it to ruin my day. I am more concerned over the crowd of kids with a baby stroller that happen to decide the place to stop and chat is between my car and the next persons.

I think there are respectful and disrespectful ways to ask. Following someone home? No way. How the hell is anyone supposed to know why they are following the car? That's not just disrespectful, it's stupid in my book.

I have found that 95% of the time when someone asks they want to buy it for nothing, so mostly it is a waste of time. But if they ask nicely I can respond nicely.

Respect is a two way street, and I agree we can all use more if it. For me, if someone opened my hood and messed around I would flip. Leave a note under the wiper? No issue for me. That is the commonly accepted way to leave a note for a car owner, so flipping out over someone doing that doesn't seem reasonable to me. And I don't think it shows disrespect by the person that left the note either.

I have had a few notes under the wiper and don't have an issue with it. What irks me are the guys that have watched too many TV car "reality" shows and think they can get the car cheap from the owner by making a ridiculously low offer, flip it at an inflated price, and make a huge profit. I have no time for those TV shows or those guys.
