So uh yeah i might get killed but i was wondering what you guys think about them old vw beetles at the track? I've seen some run like bats out of hell and i though there cool (maybe a future project of mine) since you wouldn't expect these bugs at the track let alone running as fast as they do. Anyways heres a video i though was pretty sick i swear that must be like a space ship taking off lol.

What’s the worst that could happen?

Those fast bugs are amazeing! Do they use the VW tranny?...............................MO

I had an off white old VW, my brother wrecked & I turned into a Baja Bug, might have had $1500 in that car, plus the $300 I paid my brother, VW 1600cc Dual Port, nothing special, stock floor-pan & suspension, custom intake with a Down draft Webber, exhaust extractor, good mechanical ignition, good wires, better rockers, pretty much stock internals, light aluminum crank pulley, a Judson Flapper type v-belt driven blower, good oil cooler & dual filter, good aftermarket shifter, good aftermarket clutch, stock type VW swing arm/transaxle, engine cage/protection, cheap Scat plastic racing seats & harnesses, stock fold down rear seat, one piece fiberglass lift off nose, wider fiberglass rear fenders, big off road lights, a scoop to redirect air to cool the engine, get air into a K&N fiter & molly push bar, good aftermarket gas shocks {Koni's IIRC}, in a 68 VW Baja Bug, the thing was a V8 killer on the street, run high 11's @ 90mph Fremont/Baylands & it would wheelie almost across intersections on radial T/A's P295/50's, if you dumped the clutch high enough, but slam down really hard, not enough power to keep it up... Fun little car, took it off road a bunch too, it was my D/D commuter car for a couple years, I went thru clutches about 4 times a year, cheap to build & drive... It weighed nothing, I could pick up the front or back by myself, I'm guessing 1000lbs total max... I had a buddy, friend of a friend, that owned S&S Imports in Antioch Ca., he helped me out a few times, he was a Porsche & VW expert, gave me a few tips, he had a fast VW drag car, mid-low 9's IIRC, there was another guy I knew in Sacramento Ca. that had a few fast Bugs too, Metric Mouse ran very well... Seen a few run in mid high 7's & 8's...

I have raced VW's for many years.. Just so you will know the 8 second bug in the top post has about 80k in it.. Here is my car. The white car "Bug B Gone" runs 7.20's and my tube chassis car "Barney" runs 6:50's. I am always happy to talk beetle racing. Those times are 1/8th mile.

I chopped the top on a bug to 8" and my buddy (who is a bug guy) got all mad and said "I'm gonna buy a road runner n chop the top on it!" I sold it be for finishing it because my mopar was way more important n I had to finish it

How fast would you dare to go in that!! lol
