New Member and owner of a 69 RoadRunner

Just saying hello to everyone. I purchased this car from a fellow that started rebuilding it in 92'. After purchasing it from a guy that moved to Washington State from Los Angeles with a huge collection of muscle cars, mostly Mopar. 4 original Hemi cars, several 440 Six Packs, a 340 Six Pack, 4 speed AAR Cuda plus two matching 56' Chrysler 300's, One an automatic, one a 4 speed which he put a 500 c.i. gen II Hemi in. This 69 RoadRunner was his 'parts' car, which he was eventually talked into selling to the previous owner. It is a factory A/C, power brake car with the 383 / 727 combo. The new owner pulled out the motor and transmission and sent it out to be rebuilt. He then sanded down the rust free car and shot it with some left over paint he had from a previous project. In 94' he had the car assembled just enough to be driveable so he could take it to a in-progress car show. After that, as often goes, life got in the way. It sat in his outbuilding for almost 21 years before I purchased it. He did start the car at least once a month. It needs a lot of work, i.e; new wiring, complete interior, new exhaust system, replace the A/C that was removed with a new unit, new brakes (it really hauls butt but is a little scary to stop. Since he didn't have enough paint to do a proper job, it probably will get a repaint. Also, my wife isn't keen on that green, which by the way, isn't a Mopar color but was for a 70' Rebel. I have a 440 Six Pack motor that I rebuilt to put in the 41 Dodge Custom Deluxe Coupe I'm also working on, but it may end up in the RoadRunner.

I'm just finishing up my dream shop. 2850 sq.ft, heated floors, two stall bathroom, 10K two post lift, 5 hp. 120 gallon air compressor, English wheel, planishing hammer, 20 ton press, bead roller, lockable tool crib with a craft room and canning kitchen for my lovely wife. 34 years together and she's still my best friend. I wanted a manual tranny car but she has had both knees replaced and can no longer drive a car with a clutch. I am planning on building a nice tourer, not a show car.

Welcome to FBBO! Sounds like you've got a nice project car. And I have to tell you that garage you've built sounds like a dream for anyone that likes to work on anything. I'm very envious as I've only got a 2 car condo garage where the HOA will shoot you if you try working on something.

My 69 Road Runner Project Pics

Sorry all, I thought I had included them. Here's my project. I have a newly rebuilt 440 SixPack motor out of a 69' SuperBee that may find it's way into the RR. I have a set of Stage VI heads and other goodies in the engine. I was going to use it on my 41' Dodge Custom Deluxe Coupe streetrod with a 97' Viper six speed Richmond trans, A-body 8 3/4" rear but that project will be worked on after the RoadRunner. Several years back, I chased the story of a totaled A-12 SuperBee. The story goes: He and his drunk buddies were flying low on a back farm road late one night, showing a Camero his taillights when a farm truck pulled out in front of him taking up both lanes. With the speedometer buried, he thought the freshly plowed field would be safer than contact. Only trouble was the front end of the bee nose-dived into the soft dirt and they summersaulted 6 or 7 times, throwing all of them from the car. The sheriff took them all in to spend the night in jail and sober up and he worried all night that someone would steal it. Luckily his uncle dragged the tangled wreck back to his place and hid it behind the barn. His uncle and mother let him think someone stole it for months before telling him where it was. He had planned on finding a donor Coronet and rebuilding it but as often happens, life, family, job and bills got in the way. I kept offering him more money and he kept saying he was going to rebuild it. One Saturday I got a call and he wanted to know if I still wanted it. I quickly hit up our credit union for cash. He was asking $2500 for the car with the complete drivetrain, engine, hemi 4 speed and Dana. When I got there this time, I saw a rusted out hulk half buried in mud, the 440 siting with just the heads on. When we went into the barn, the drivetrain was nowhere to be found. I could see the rusted valves and new it was going to be a lot of work so I made him an offer for just the block and the SixPack setup and extra carbs and carb jets and kits. He didn’t answer so I asked what he wanted and I thought he was asking me to buy a Hemi. I showed him the rust in the engine and pointed out that someone had lifted the fender tag and the vin from the car. Someone had painted the aluminum six pack manifold blue, green and orange. I asked him if there was anything he would be interested in trading and it just so happened, he needed a new motor for his older Chevy pickup and I had one sitting that was only a year old when I replaced it with a 383 stroker. He was going through a divorce and needed the truck running so he could make it to work and move. I had tried to sell that 350 for $750 but didn't tell him that and he took it. The 440 had two blown pistons and had been sitting out in back of the barn, half sunk into the mud. Luckily he had pulled off the six pack setup and put it inside after someone tried to remove them one night. The back of the body had been on fire and someone shot it several times with pistols, rifles and a shotgun blast or two. Honestly, it looked more like someone ran a bulldozer over all four corners then the roof. Every piece of glass was broken out and others had been scavaging parts they could off of it. I raced home to pick up the 350 and we made the trade.
Now,if I can convince my lovely wife that we really need it, I would like to put a FAST fueled SixPack w/ three throttle bodies under that big oval air cleaner. I just changed the keys, wouldn't you know it, I somehow misplaced the only set of keys that came with the car. I will spend the rest of the year assembling the parts I want to use in it so once started, there shouldn't be too many hold ups. By the way, this RoadRunner has 69,050 miles on it.
