You may remember my car. I had a 1867 restored original Hemii GTX, white/bronze. I had bought the car from RK Motors Charlotte. It is a magnificent car. I sold it back to them and replaced it with a 1967 427/435 Corvette Coupe. I always was a Chevy guy, but I really miss the GTX. It was a true concourse restoration. I am thinking of buying the GTX back in a trade, as it is still available, but we all know car dealers buy wholesale and sell retail. It will cost me money and the Corvette, when actually I believe the Corvette is worth more, but is not at the same level. What would you do?:icon_rolleyes: Thanks

pics of both would help, I think I would rather have the vette if its anything like my old 67 427 car, black and silver, dyno'd 520 hp, 4 speed, lake pipes, 17" wheels (as wide as could fit and grippy), updated suspension (nothing crazy just poly, and progressive springs/shocks}, and it was regeared a bit.. The car was SO fun to drive, ice cold a/c, snug fit, fast, handled well, felt so balanced and crisp. Sad part is I only owned it for 4 months, a business deal came up, I needed liquid assets and she had to go, I scored it and sold it for what I was into it for, to a friend, he still owns it and wont sell it for the world..

I say keep the vette, now if you had a 70 hemi gtx then it may be a different story for me, I am not a 67 b body fan, really nice cars, and I love them, but not in the market for one anytime soon, in other words, there are probably 8 cars I would add to my collection before that unless it was a steal.. And a 67 427 4bbl or tri car would be one of my additions..

hmmm,
A 67 "435-car", LOL
THAT is a serious automobile also...

If you are a true Chevy guy, I'd say keep the 435 car.

But yeah, a true "J-code" car is pretty exceptional also!
In my opinion, the 67 GTXs are "Under the RADAR"
I believe they are worth more than the market dictates...Just my opinion!

(Everything is Hemi Cuda, Hemi Cuda, Hemi Cuda)

agreed, unless you are in love with that body style. Think about it this way...that GTX (ex girlfriend) you broke up with, and now you're only thinking about the good times, guess what there's a reason you traded her in, I suspect you got bored, if you go back...you'll get bored again.
the vette IMHO has sportier lines. That being said, go to them with what you're willing to pay out, and if it's more than that- Hey you tried...AND you still have a big block vette!

what is there to think about......get yourself a BIG BAD MOPAR!.
sell the 'vette, a million buyers out there
:eusa_doh:

I had a buddy with a 289 X 4 speed mustang conv (red)...
he was looking to sell it,,,,...to purchase a B Body big block Mopar!

long story short...pancreatic Cancer...3 weeks later..gone. one heck of a guy.

so do it
!

I don't like Corvettes so I cant give a unbiased opinion on this, Of course I am going to say buy the GTX back that was a car that meant all business.

I like unique...how many 67 vettes available with 435 hp(that's 427 tri-power)....those go for far more than the hemi GTX....I would sell the vette private and get the GTX back.

This had me thinking, a 67 hemi X is worth around $80K, I havent seen many 427 triples for under $100K, obviously depending on condition and their paper trails cars can be worth much more or less, BUT in general terms I would put a "nice" 67 GTX j code car in the $74K to $96K range, a big block tri power vette I would say $95K to 120K, a friend of mine sold his for $140K a couple years ago, I bought and sold mine for $92,500 and it was a super score, today its worth probably $135K...

keep the vette, take that bit of money you would have put into the trade and put it into the vette, not sure what it needs but if its more power you want, that 427 will pick up almost 100hp with some head work, a new cam, a strong spark, and tuned carbs...

I remember a shop that was doing some work for me had a stock "never rebuilt" l88 motor on their dyno, it made just about 580hp!!! Them 427's are no joke, granted that motor is not an l88, but chevy said the l88 was 430hp too, and they were really over 550, lol...

I think the biggest factor (ignoring aesthetics, price, rarity, etc) in driving a hemi b body vs a 427 vette would be the tranny for me, never mind the vette handles 29 times better and you sit in it and feel like you are in a cock pit vs your grand mothers station wagon :) , the 833 4 spds are strong as iron BUT shifting manners even i a worked over unit leaves much to be desired, IMO. The vette shifts pretty nice for an old girl..

Yup, but its a 435 car...
AND, that being said, are you 100 percent sure the "435 car" is authentic?
435 cars can be forged BUT a J-code Hemi car can not be forged.

Again, this decision depends on you.
Not our opinions...you have to live with it.

Choose wisely
And remember this;
Not everyone HERE on For B-bodies only will be as subjective as I am.
After all this IS a MOPAR Forum!

Not a Corvette guy..... Mopar baby!

I think allot of the appeal about Mopars is your not just another Chevy guy? They are truely different.

yes I remember that car it was a very nice white GTX I believe I even posted a lot of photos of it a while back .

I don't have an opinion either way here, but I will bet that now that RK has been given the heads up, they will likely already have a buyer lined up for the 'Vette.
And guess who is likely to win on the deal.

Uh....RK?

I'm for the Hemi GTX. They don't grow on trees if it's original numbers matching and the whole bit. I'm not really a vetted guy either. If I was it would be the 60s group that I would be interested in. But I'm pretty much a Mopar guy.

no one can make up your mind for you. It's your decision - there must be a reason you miss that Hemi GTX so much.

Thank you all for very sensible comments and opinions. The Corvette is real and documented. I think you are all spot on. I think I'll keep it!

You couldnt get air conditioning or an automatic in a 435hp 67 corvette.

Dump the chevy and get your mopar back.

I have done a lot of a/c conversions and add ons, the vette looks about the best. With braided lines and all the pulleys it was under $2K, well worth it, classics systems seem to blow so cold... The car I had was a "real" car, but had some changes, larger wheels, a/c, smaller steering wheel, electric fuel pump, etc.. But with them cars you don't hurt them much with stuff that can be swapped right out...

Was in a similar position as you but not with the money you are talking. I traded a 1970 350/300 4-speed Corvette (plus cash) for a 67 GTX. I am a true Mopar guy and owned the Corvette for 4 years. I realized everybody has a Corvette. At car shows and cruise ins they are everywhere. Plus I'm getting older and this body is having a hard time getting in and out of a Corvette.
I wanted a 67 body of Satellite/Belvedere. I just really like the style. I had a 70 GTX when younger so I did that. Yes I probably paid a premium in my deal but that is what I wanted.

Yes I traded with a private party and you are looking at trading with a dealer. Hate the dealers. Good Luck.

Corvettes are great cars but at the end of the day, well... it's... {yawn} … just another vette.

Over the years I have bought four cars from RK Motors. I have heard a lot of bad experiences other folks have had with them. I can't speak to the circumstances they had because it has always been a pleasure for me, and every car was awesome. They were not blowing smoke when they said this Hemi X is the worlds finest restored car out there. It absolutely is. It is the original drivetrain, sheet metal, and complete suspension and all components. The paint and interior are spectacular and it is all documented with original MOPAR paperwork. It has 56,000+ original miles.
