is there a source for the rubber ball joint boots/dust covers? sometime back i seen year one wanting over $100 just for the covers, yikes! (ain't gonna happen!) so are there any sources out there?

Yup, I was in the Auto Parts business for 30yrs. We used to stock them from a Co called Help/Motormite , now owned by Dorman Products. Probably won't find them in the stores stock that you use. But ask them to check, or go online to Dorman and get the part numbers yourself. I know for a fact that they used to offer them. That was a while back though.

Funny thing:
I just picked a bunch from my local NAPA store
They had a Box of assorted sizes.
(I'm in the process of restoring a 67 LeMans convertible AC and a 4-speed car)

I didn't get any tie rod or ball joint boots with my car. I found Energy suspension has the poly boots in black. From what I remember they were cheaper than Help/Motomite. I could be wrong though as it was a while ago. Good luck!

They are a pain in the neck to get -- or have your local parts store order them in -- these days they don't want to be bothered.....
I used to get them from a company that made a REALLY NICE, steel enforced boot -- but sadly, that company is out of business...
I have them for $ 5.00 each -- and they are not great, but it sure beats nothing..........
