71-74 doors and fenders

@71charger_fan

Sorry to hijack the thread, but...

What did you do with the "balls" on the Cordoba mirror studs that go into the depressions on Cordoba doors?

I have a real nice set of painted 75 and up mirrors with driver controlled pass side remote.
...but I'm fighting with those stud balls. I tried just drilling the extra holes as it looks like you did, but the balls prevent the mirror from seating all the way and drilling larger holes will get into the body lines, plus affect the kind of nut/washer I can use.

I thought about:

A- carefully grinding the balls off

B- cutting the studs off completely, counter sinking the pot metal from the top, and using through bolts like the 71-74 mirrors.

It wasn't me

I removed the middle stud and ground that "ball" off of each mirror. My car wasn't built with a passenger side mirror, so the more "butchered" looking door is the driver door.

what are you using for a nut and/or washer on the studs that still have protrusions?

seemed to me you'd almost need a cup style washer with a fairly specific depth and over all size.

That style mirror has a backing plate that goes inside the door. The mirror studs go through the door and the plate, then the nuts go on.
