My friend owns a 2012 F150 with 20" wheels. The tires are ready to be replaced and he found a new set of 20" F150 tires/ wheels from a 2019. Suppose my friend installs the new set on the 2012 F150. Will the new TPS communicate with the truck's computer system?

Do you mean the TPMS? (tire pressure monitor)

I guess you could look up the part for each year and see if they're the same. What happens if the newer ones don't communicate? Maybe a obnoxious warning light and bell?

The truck probably will need to be programmed with a scan tool... It currently recognizes the sensors that were programmed to it.... If it just started looking at every TPMS sensor you get warnings about low tire pressure on the guy in the next lanes vehicle.... Seems I remember reding you can actually program them manually.... I'll see if I can find the info...

It definately will not work without a rescan. On my 2013 the TPS is factory set for a higher pressure in the rears. So everytime I rotated the tires by switching them from front to back on the same side, it set off a light, even tho I reset the proper tire pressure. So there's no way they are going to work if you put them on a different vehicle. It will error as soon as they get out of range of the original truck.

NOPE ! I have winters with 2012 sensors and they WILL NOT work on my '18.. so not gonna work on / from a '19. 2011/2012 F 150's were an idiot light saying you had a soft tire. 2018 up are each wheel monitors showing pressure in each tire and mine could not be scanned / programmed / etc. In the winter I just hit OKAY a lot on the wheel...

(Don't know how that was capitalising each word as I typed?)

The problem is more that the dashboard info device wont leave you alone without endless interaction about your stupid tires!!
