On my 68 charger. While fixing a few little odds and ends . I took out the dash the headlight controller manifold was disconnected from the switch. Would that be a huge vacuum leak or does that system have a check valve? I fixed it all just wondering .

To my knowledge the system doesn't have any check valving, its all hoses, switch, vacuum canister and actuators.

As long as you are not sending vacuum to the switch from the intake manifold/vacuum canister, you won't notice any difference in the switch being disconnected/non-functioning.

Musta had a heck of a leak. I figure the timing is way off to compensate for that leak. And possibly that's one reason why it runs pretty hot.
Sound about right?

The vacuum accumulator can under the battery was leaking too
That's why I'm going for the electric conversion same reason Ma Mopar went electric a couple of years later.... just like vacuum windshield wipers are a thing of the past for good reason.
