Among all the chit we got to be concerned about on the planet, in my locale it's been all the hoopla for months about my old HS football mascot Falls 'Indians' having to find a new name. Geez the board meetings and now the students are to find a new handle except they have to keep the symbol 'F' (for Falls) that has two feathers on it (gather changing this will be too costly given all the signage everywhere with the symbol). The village has a deep Indian heritage and likely how the name was selected 70 years ago! Maybe I'm not as sensitive as is proper on this; but how does the name Indians insult...well those with Indian heritage? May write in to suggest names that might align with da feathers: Barn Swallows, Pigeons, among other birds as my sense of humor goes.

They should name the mascot after the people that are offended by everything...The BIRD BRAINS!!!

how dare you insult ingenious people like that..
its just someone's agenda
the same people that want to do away with Columbus day.
its hilarious you support the people who create the problems you cry about..
the Falls Eunuchs might not offend anyone..

Our Town Schools Team Name was the "Redskins", just like the NFL Team. It all started with the Obama years, and the Democratic take-over. Heated School Board meetings, Local School Board members voted out of their positions, rallies to keep the name, etc... In the end, the Mascot name was changed to "Legends", with a Knight in armor, as the symbol. Erase the past, and "We" will tell you how it will be. Isn't that the plan for it all. Look what they teach in History now...

You could be the Falcons but that may hurt the feelings of the raptor heritage

too much PC BS run amuck

everyone is offended by the stupidest ****

that stuff that has been there for decades
until all of a sudden everyone is a weak **** & butt-hurt/offended

we all know where & whom it came from

Yes, we know....our children. Thats where it came from.

The PC crap has gotten out of hand, I'll admit. Bare with me a moment.

When ever someone whines about their feelings being affected by something someone may have said, I come back with this story of when I grew up.

My family is from Germany. Was born there and spent many summers there. Growing up here, my brother and I always played ARMY with the other neighborhood kids for years. Of course the 2 of us always had to be the Germans. For all of those summers playing army, we always had to lose the battles of course and die with excruciating rolls on the ground when shot. This never really hurt our feelings or anything else. We had fun! After about 6 years of losing and having to be dead to the count of 10 MISSISSIPPI's, we moved on in life. Hell, if that doesn't give you a mental beating, nothing will, and we came out just fine. Today......parents would have a hissy fit seeing their kids losing like that and the kids would probably quit playing after 1 time playing army. ****.....no kids are even allowed to play that game anymore today. Yes, it's a different world today than when we were kids, but I still say it goes back to parenting and how you are raised.

We also have 2 schools here dealing with having to change their mascot names because for whatever reasons it seems to offend some small group somewhere. I just roll my eyes and shake my head. Sorry for the story......

Years ago I managed a large group of people in several offices around the country, half or more were female. There were some fun occasions where the dialog got a little risque; all in fun and don't recall anyone being offended as if someone did I'd a likely heard about it from them or HR. And tell ya, a few of the gals would get pretty loose. One time having to run a large meeting one shouted out "strip him before he talks"! A roar of laughter and a few gasps; couldn't identify who had said it and didn't give a ****; I laughed too. Later came the mandated sexual harassment training 'workshops' and 'role playing'. Always despised these session formats that corporations globbed onto. We were told what we could not say (very long list) and I asked if I could complement one of my female staff about her attire looking nice. Nope! Can't say this. On it went and I got to the point where I asked the trainer "Can I tell one of my staff that she looks like **** today"? This got a round of laughs; but our trainer wasn't amused to say the least! After this, the work environment became noticeably more tense and I had to chase after some of the guys who I was told would still say **** we were no longer allowed to say or get my *** in hot water. There's a line that shouldn't be crossed, most all know it; but not long after I left the big corp to get away from the corp BS and started my own biz. Yeah still enough BS; but less. Referencing an earlier post about playing Army, holy crap, today we'd have the SWAT team taking us down with the guns we ran around the neighborhood with!

That is how you know your old. Its not our world anymore. And little can or will be done about it.

Guys at work were just talking that now there was some article where they want to make Santa Claus transgender so he is fair for everyone. Give me a break. Now we can really say "Santa isn't real"!!!

Wait a sec! Are you telling us there's NO Santa?

My school's nickname is the Mohawks. My understanding is a number of years ago they reached a agreement (along with a donation maybe) with the actual Mohawk tribe that we could continue to use the name as long as an Indian was not depicted/pictured, an arrow is okay I think, but no feathers, etc... Every few years the PC police raise a ruckus with the name and the school board shows the agreement and nobody but them are offended, and they are not even a Native American.

The actual "mascot" that parades on the sidelines is Mo the Hawk.

as long as we keep tolerating the police state tyrants
in this country this will only be the beginning …
don't cry too hard when they take our cars away
after you are not outraged at this..

With all due respect, I’m likely not in the loop with the long hoopla surrounding the various names used such as Indians, Chiefs, Braves, Warriors, etc. How these handles are construed as a rip on the Native American folks is a mystery to me. Are these considered slurs? Perhaps those of subject heritage could say and I’m all ears. In one aspect (least as I think) they might be thought of as an attribute to the Native Americans; a reference to their proud heritage. Could be I’m just a geezer white guy – out of touch on this thing.

I agree, but I plan to be just as big a pain in the arse as I can before I go. :poke:
